Eagles fall in final game

The AU Women's Basketball team came tantalizingly close to its first NCAA tournament appearance, but lost 71-60 to Colgate last Wednesday, ending their season in the Patriot League Championship game. "There wasn't a time when I didn't think the outcome would be different tonight," said Eagles head coach Shann Hart.

Hearing waived in case of DWI death

The woman who has been charged in the drunken-driving death of AU junior Andrew Burr waived her right to a preliminary hearing March 5. Shelly Wentworth will appear in court again April 9 for a status hearing, according to Channing Phillips, spokesman for the U.

Jerusalem women speak about their lives, faith and visions for students

Partners for Peace organized its 6th annual tour entitled "Jerusalem Women Speak: Three Women, Three Faiths, One Shared Vision." The program was sponsored at AU by the Women and Gender Studies Program. Three women, one Christian, one Muslim, and one Jew shared their stories about living in Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

Walking out of Stabler Arena after AU's crushing 59-57 loss at Lehigh in Sunday's Patriot League Men's Basketball championship, I knew the drive back to AU would be long, lonely and depressing. I'm a writer - not a player, a coach, a manager or a member of the athletics department. But having covered the team for the last two years, I couldn't help but hurt for them.

Eagles ready to take care of business

In Women's Basketball head coach Shann Hart's four years at AU, this weekend will be the biggest yet. This Friday, the Eagles enter the Patriot League tournament as the second seed in their attempt to win the league and earn an NCAA tournament bid. "We're a little disappointed with the season we had, as I thought we'd win the league, but second seed is great," Hart said. "We've definitely got something to prove."

Mens Basketball heads to tourney

The AU Men's Basketball team might be the hottest team in the Patriot League entering this weekend's opening rounds of the conference tournament in Upper Marlboro, Md. In the last two weekends, the Eagles (16-12, 10-4) have won four straight games to secure a share of a regular season PL title that looked well out of reach in mid-February.

Independent study aims to 'break the silence'

One AU freshman is working to open students' eyes and mouths about sexual abuse in relationships. Jessica Hollander believes it is time to "break the silence" about sexual abuse and unhealthy relationships. To do this, she has started an independent study with the Women's Initiative and the Women's and Gender Studies department with the goal of starting some sort of program or organization to increase awareness of unhealthy relationships.

Gym use on the rise

Lately hundreds of AU students are determined, pushing themselves to their limits in order to obtain a noteworthy goal: to lose weight and get into shape. Since January this year, the number of students who regularly work out at Jacobs Fitness Center has increased; creating long lines in which people are forced to wait as much as thirty minutes before beginning their workouts.

Election results lead to runoff

The elections for president of the Student Confederation, AU's student government, will go to a runoff on Thursday, as no candidate received the required number of votes when the results were announced Tuesday night. The other SC executive positions are locked in place as the respective candidates await the final vote.

Breaking News: Kanneth wins SC presidency

Polson Kanneth was elected president of the Student Confederation, AU's student government, Thursday night after a one-day election runoff against Steve Gilbert. Both had beat out competition from three other candidates in the general election, which was held Saturday through Tuesday.

Lax loses lead in home opener

Everything was in place Tuesday afternoon at Reeves Field for a positive beginning to the Women's Lacrosse season. The air was a spring-like 68 degrees and few clouds dotted the sky as AU took a two-goal lead over Towson into halftime. The only thing that didn't end up in the Eagles' favor was the outcome, as the Tigers outscored them 5-1 in the final 21 minutes en route to a 16-13 win.
