Faulty ballots mailed in D.C. area

The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics recently sent out approximately 126 erroneous absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 election to voters from D.C.'s Single Member District. The 126 ballots out of 2,000 resident voters represent about 6.3 percent of votes in the Single Member District, SMD 2F03.

Sukaj grew up in Tirana, Albania. It was because of her father and brother's love for sports that she got involved with volleyball at 12 years old.

Hirsch makes civil rights statement in 'Milk'

Considering his roles from "Into the Wild" to "Alpha Dog," it's clear that Emile Hirsch has a knack for portraying real people, and he continues his success as Cleve Jones in Gus Van Sant's new Harvey Milk biopic "Milk." Hirsch, who was in town to promote the film and the real life inspiration for his character in the story, Jones, led a question and answer session this past Thursday.

Cell service reminds youth to vote via text

In addition to "get out the vote" efforts, a new study by Student PIRGs and CREDO Mobile suggests presidential campaigns should text out the vote, blog out the vote and YouTube out the vote to attract youth supporters. Credo Mobile, a cell phone company that contributes to non-profit organizations, and the student activism organization Student PIRGs, sent text messages to 3,600 randomly selected young voters Feb.

Eagles lose to Colgate, 1-0

The AU men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought decision on the road to Colgate University Saturday, losing to the Red Raiders 1-0. The defeat drops the Eagles record to 7-7-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in the Patriot League. The only scoring of the game came in the fourth minute of the match, as Colgate junior midfielder Alex Weekes took advantage of an Eagle defensive turnover and buried a shot from just outside the 18-yard box past freshman goalkeeper Matt Makowski to give Colgate the 1-0 lead.

In "Free speech forum angers AU students," The Eagle incorrectly reported that there are 1.5 million Muslims worldwide. The number of Muslims worldwide is actually between 1.3 and 1.4 billion. Additionally, the same article stated that many audience members booed and snickered.

Matisyahu keeps Kosher at Sixth and I

Crowd surfing, mosh pits and clubs all go hand in hand, but when a Hasidic Jew is added, things seem out of the ordinary. Matisyahu, born as Matthew Miller, is an Orthodox Jew who blends traditional Jewish values into reggae, rock and hip-hop music. He will play tonight at his architectural counterpart - the Sixth and I Historical Synagogue.

Field hockey splits last two games

The AU Eagles' field hockey team finished its season strong with four victories and one loss in its last five games after it beat Lehigh University 6-0 Friday and lost 5-2 to 10th ranked Princeton University on Sunday. The Eagles dominated conference play, finishing the season 5-0 in the Patriot League and outscoring its Patriot League opponents 19-1.

Metro bag searches

Recently, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced its intention to conduct random bag searches for travelers at Metrorail or Metrobus stations. The program, based loosely on a similar program for New York's subway system, was instituted in an attempt to keep riders safe from possible terrorist attacks.
