Addition of playoff spot will add intrigue to MLB season

With the National Hockey League and National Basketball Association playoffs in full swing, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has been pushing for a new playoff format for the 2012 season. The new format would provide a welcome change to baseball’s current system that has remained the same since Selig added the wild card spot in 1995. Selig’s proposal, which sounds like it is all but a done deal, would add another wild card spot to the playoffs and essentially add another round.


Barry Bonds may never win in court of public opinion

In case you’ve been too busy concentrating on your brackets, Barry Bonds is on trial. Yes, he’s facing perjury charges and is looking at hard time in the big house, but he’s also on trial with us — the fans. Whether he beats the charges against him is almost meaningless, which is unfortunate.


Michelle Kirk leaves women's basketball team

Senior Michelle Kirk has left the women’s basketball team “for personal reasons," according to a press release from the AU Athletics Department. Kirk’s name has been removed from the roster on the AU Athletics website. In the release, Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill said, “The University supports Michelle’s decision and we wish her the best as she continues her studies at AU.”


Reasons to love the Nationals

The Nationals are a last place team. At least that’s where they’re heading for the 2010 campaign. That should not come as a surprise to people that have been following baseball as the Nationals have been basement dwellers for a few years. After losing over 100 games in 2009, how much getter could they get? But don’t let the past give you hang ups about D.C.’s baseball club. Here are some reasons you should love the Nationals.


Nats beat Phillies, 7-5

Trailing in the bottom of the ninth, Ryan Zimmerman stepped to the plate and absolutely crushed a Brad Lidge fastball halfway up the grass beyond the centerfield wall to give the Nationals a 7-5 victory.
