Hip-hop heroes join for Haiti

And so it was on this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day that some of D.C.’s popular and transcendent rap and hip-hop acts took the stage at the 9:30 club to raise money for the people of Haiti, who are still searching for the dead after a massive 7.0 earthquake outside the capital of Port-au-Prince.

New year brings new music to District venues

While some musicians focus on both their music and personal appearance, alt-rock band “We Are Scientists” balance their serious music with hilarious personalities. Upon visiting their homepage, one will see advertising for “equestrine upholstery,” or simply, horse blankets. It’s such a contrast that you wonder what the hell these guys are all about.




RETURN OF THE KING — If you’ve got the time to visit the District’s museums and galleries, you can stumble across some great exhibits, such as the National Portrait Gallery’s “One Life: Echoes of Elvis,” a collection that follows the life and fame of Elvis Presley. Galleries such as the Hamiltonian Gallery on U Street  offer deeper works, such as the images of store mannequins in Africa taken by Washington, D.C. photographer Frank Hallam Day.

Cast makes ‘Up’ story

George Clooney directed by Jason Reitman (the man who directed “Juno” and “Thank You for Smoking”) is a tough review to write, namely because such a film would, at face value, be superb. Luckily, the reality is that “Up in the Air” is all you could hope for.
