Panel discusses human rights

The AU Museum and Washington College of Law hosted a panel discussion of human rights in the 21st century. Many older members of the community showed up to see human rights experts Herman Schwartz, Juan Méndez, Susanna Su Cuoto and Cole Sternberg in their discussion.

Fire chars house, claims dog

No one was injured after a fire seriously damaged a house near campus on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 21, but one dog was killed. The fire in the 4200 block of 47th Street N.W. was reported at 4:47 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Crosswhite said Saturday. The first units were on the scene within three minutes.

Study: College life improving

Student quality of life ratings at over 400 colleges and universities across America have significantly improved from ratings in the same categories last year, according to a study by the National Survey of Student Engagement.

Upset student explains transfer

Come spring 2009, Jack Eichner, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, will no longer be at AU, not because he plans to study abroad or take a year off from his education, but because Eichner has decided AU is not the right school for him.

Campus brief

AU's Student Health Center anticipated an influx of flu shot recipients this winter. The Health Center ordered 4,500 vaccines this winter, said Director of the Health Center Dan Bruey. Historically, the health center has ordered 800-1,000 seasonal flu vaccines, he said.
