Men's soccer ties Lafayette in PL title game rematch

The AU men's soccer team tied Lafayette in a rematch of their PL title game from a season ago. The result dropped the Eagles to 0-0-1 in league play and 3-4-1 overall. In front of a crowd of just under 400 spectators in Easton, Pa., the two teams that had combined to win four of the last five PL championships lived up to the hype of being among the top teams in the league.

Music notes

Wolf Eyes "Human Animal" (Sub Pop) Grade: A- Sounds Like: Those night terrors you had as a kid set to demonized jazz music. Wolf Eyes is a noise trio out of Ann Arbor, Mich., that for the past decade has been screwing with people's minds and making them sleep with the lights on.

The Tavern will now offer different themed food nights every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year for students who frequent the late-night campus food eatery, unlike the common fare from last year, as seen above.

New Tavern specials were designed to increase the options for late-night dining and broaden the selection of food at the Terrace Dining Room alternative, according to Student Government President Ashley Mushnick. Mushnick, a senior in the School of Public Affairs, said she worked closely with Yvonne Matteson, the manager of Bon Appetit, to add more variety to the Tavern.

SOC freshman wins award for producing public service announcement Christine Felty, a freshman in the School of Communication, received a Young Producer's Award last weekend from the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, which is affiliated with the Emmy Awards.

Acoustic visionary M. Ward woos Birchmere

M. Ward first took the Birchmere's bandstand stage alone on Friday night, his face shrouded by a faded baseball cap and his dark hair curling out from beneath it. In silence, he grasped the neck of his acoustic guitar and began playing. To call Ward an accomplished acoustic guitarist would be a gross understatement.

Alcohol-related hospital transports on the rise

The "red zone," Housing and Dining's nickname for the first five weeks of the semester, lived up to its name this year with a significant increase in hospital transports since Welcome Week than in previous years, creating concern among faculty and staff. According to studies conducted by the Office of Campus Life, approximately 25 to 30 students are transported during the year because of alcohol overdose.

Wii date and price unveiled

Nintendo Wii priced and dated Nintendo's next-gen console Wii will go on sale in the United States on Nov. 19 for $249.99, the gaming giant announced last week. The system will be bundled with "Wii Sports," a package that incorporates the controller's innovative motion technology into golf, tennis, baseball, bowling and boxing.

This year, however, it's worse than ever. Apparently the Class of 2010 (and, yes, thanks to your Facebook group, we know you party hard) can now boast one of the highest transport rates in recent years.

Graduation rate stable at AU, falls nationally

The United States is no longer the world leader in completion of college based on a recent report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. While the U.S. leads the world in the proportion of 35- to 64-year-olds with college degrees, it ranks seventh as a developed nation with 39 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds with associate degrees.
