SOC freshman wins award for producing public service announcement
Christine Felty, a freshman in the School of Communication, received a Young Producer's Award last weekend from the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, which is affiliated with the Emmy Awards.
Felty said she won the award for her role in developing a storyboard for a public service announcement promoting organ donation. Felty spent part of the summer producing the announcement with Banyan Productions in Philadelphia. The ad premiered at last weekend's Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, where she accepted the award, she said.
The scholarship competition is designed for young students interested in TV careers, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Felty said last year's theme was eating disorders.

Methodist bishop/board member preaches at service
The AU United Methodist-Protestant Community hosted Bishop John Schol at their service last night to preach the sermon.
Schol is the bishop of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church and a member of the AU board of trustees.
Schol preached at AU last spring as well. He is the first Methodist bishop to preach at AU, a Methodist affiliated school, in at least 50 years.
Schol was elected bishop of the United Methodist Church in July 2004, according to the United Methodist Church news Web site. Schol said he was very active in the Methodist Church while growing up and that he received a lot of positive feedback and encouragement to lead a life of faith.
The United Methodist Church was created in 1968 by a merger of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist churches.
