"Eragon," despite fierce fantasy elements, may very well suck.

Geeks, ghosts, spiders invade Trailer Park

·

Not too long ago in a galaxy pretty damn close to this one, geeks invaded this column. However, geeks are people too, and there are actually some good geek movies coming out that everyone can get behind. Staff editorial: New cameras good, but don't let your guard down

Public Safety is replacing and upgrading several of the security cameras in the Nebraska Avenue parking lot. The cameras ran on an older technology and often malfunctioned. The cameras are not always monitored but are set to record all the time. Although most students feel safe on and around AU's campus, robberies in the area are unfortunately nothing new.

For College Students, Debt Hits Hard

·

The American dream is a bitter lie for thousands of students across our country today. Since 2000, the average cost of attending four-year public college has increased over 40 percent. Yet earlier this year, Congress cut $12 billion in student aid (enough to send 230,000 students to college for four years), allowed student loan rates to spike and refused to raise Pell Grants.

Speakers examine nuclear disarmament options

Real action needs to be taken on nuclear disarmament, which has become an "empty slogan," said George Perkovish, the keynote speaker at a research symposium titled "Deconstructing Nuclear Weapons." AU students were able to engage in a discussion with several of the area's experts on the future of nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament.

Faded stars fail to shine in 'Legends!'

"I guess everyone who puts on a play thinks it's good ... I've never heard of people getting together and saying, 'let's put on a steaming turd,'" says Sylvia (Joan Collins of "Dynasty" fame) in the comedy "Legends!" If only she had taken that advice to heart.

Online radio station decodes musical genes

Music is a complex science. Like a set of DNA, music is composed of its own genes. Components of music such as rhythm, tonality, instrumentation and vocal style are essentially the traits that create a song or artist's effect on our ears. One type of music may be appealing to one person but revolting to another.

French cuisine offers vacation from studying

I don't think that you have to live in Paris for years to experience "the Paris effect." The often overwhelming size of the city, the countless monuments and attractions and the unique feel of each "arrondissement" (district) combine to give one the impression that Paris is its own little country.

Estevez comeback flops

It's not difficult to see "Bobby," an ensemble piece set in the Ambassador Hotel circa 1968, as a case study in false advertising. A soggy ode to a politician that director Emilio Estevez clearly regards as the second coming, the movie is more a series of fluffy skits starring half of Hollywood.

Craig plays ace Bond in gritty 'Casino Royale'

This isn't your parents' James Bond. Hell, this isn't even our Bond. "Casino Royale" sets a new standard for the series, one that sets aside the gadgets and overuse of multiple-entendres. Instead, the film focuses on character development and plotting, although there are plenty of pithy comments, incredibly gorgeous women and spectacular chase sequences to go around.
