AU to host mock assembly debate
Robert Pastor, AU's vice president of international affairs, will work with Christine Frechette, Parliament founder, to host a Triumvairate, a mock interparliamentary assembly that will allow students from different colleges and countries in North America to debate controversial issues, according to the American Weekly.
"We decided to work more with young people because we knew it would be hard to change the way of working within the official organizations," Frechette said in the American Weekly. "So we decided to work with the next generation."
Participants will submit suggested legislation that they would like to debate and organizers will send the participants the final legislation in April. During the debates, lobbyists can influence their decision-making and journalists will report in the daily conference newspaper, the Trilat Herald, according to the American Weekly.
Frechette has held the event for the past two years; however this year's event will take place May 20-25 at AU, whose Center for North American Studies is co-sponsoring the event, according to the American Weekly.

Fraternities learn effective marketing
On Saturday, just under 100 AU fraternity members participated in an all-day recruitment boot camp in order to learn how to "effectively market their organization," Danny Kelley, coordinator of Greek Life and Leadership in the Office of the Dean of Students, said in an e-mail.
The "intense program ... addressed image, fraternal values, stereotypes [and] how to brand your organization," Kelly said.
Steven Dorsey, a sophomore in the School of Communication and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, said although some in attendance did not take the event seriously, it was "one of the most beneficial things we've done together as a Greek community."
Dorsey explained the event aimed to encourage fraternities to go beyond the rush for recruiting and get other members involved in Greek life.
