AUSG to sign students up to vote for 2008

For 2008, AU's Student Government plans to increase student voter registration by starting a program similar to one already implemented by the George Washington University Student Association. GW Votes, a new nonpartisan initiative developed by the GW Student Association, aims to register all GW students who are eligible to vote in the 2008 presidential election.

Georgetown University officials announced Tuesday that a hard drive stolen from the Student Affairs Office contained personal data on 38,000 students, faculty and staff, according to The Hoya, Georgetown's student newspaper. On Jan. 3, officials alerted Georgetown's public safety department, the Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service, which deals with potential misuse of private information, about the theft, The Hoya reported.

Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said in front of thousands of supporters at a campaign rally for the Illinois senator held in Bender Arena Monday. Students 'die-in' against Iraq

Student activists staged a "die-in" last night in Mary Graydon Center, during which they laid on the floor of the lobby to protest the Iraq war. Students from the Community Action and Social Justice Coalition wore all black clothing for the event, which was meant to draw attention to the lives lost in the Iraq war and raise student awareness about the situation, according to Jenna Robson, a freshman in the School of International Service.

In a time when many are focused on the future of America, the AU Players take a step backward and look at the history of America through their first performance of the semester, "The Complete History of America (Abridged)." Through skits, songs and mime, the six-member cast brought the audience an entirely irreverent and hilarious version of where the United States of America's roots lie.

Men's basketball loses 2nd straight at Bender

The men's basketball team continued its struggling season, losing to the Navy Midshipmen 77-66 at home for the first time since 1991. From the start, Navy was easily the more energetic team, as the Midshipmen gave AU struggles with both their zone and full court man-to-man defenses.

An odd crowd gathered to see an equally odd lineup when the Super Furry Animals, known for their progressive power-pop, played the 9:30 club Sunday night. The floor was surprisingly packed for an early show, but the swarm that assembled appeared to be equally as intrigued by SFA as it was with backup help from electronic post-punkers Holy Fuck and eclectic indie rockers, The Fiery Furnaces.
