UN center stage in politi-thriller

"The Interpreter" is the all-out rollercoaster thriller of the spring. The movie makes the viewer whirl through every imaginable emotion. At times, audiences will jump from their seats in fear, and other times they'll let out a laugh. The movie begins in the fictional country of Motobo in Africa.

By KEVIN HILGERS Eagle Staff Writer If things had gone as planned earlier this spring, the AU Golf team might have entered this weekend's Patriot League championship with its off-the-course situation on its mind. But now, with the team ensured one more year of play before its elimination, the Eagles can head to the Bucknell University Golf Course with their minds on something else: its first PL championship and trip to the AU finished the spring with two strong finishes after taking first at the Lafayette Invitational and second at George Washington's Bethany Beach Invitational.

Israeli week celebrated on the Quad

April 21

As part of Israeli Week, students ate food on the Quad. The week's festivities included Lemonade for Lives, sponsored by the sorority Alpha Epsilon Phi and free hookah on the Quad. A special screening of 'Channels of Rage: 2 Rappers, 1 Land' was shown Wednesday at 8:30 in the SIS Lounge.

Kung Fu Hustle A- with Stephen Chow, Qiu Yuen, Kwok Kuen Chan. Written and directed by Stephen Chow. Opens tomorrow. Chow's humor harkens back to the vaudeville rule of threes (in Chow's case, it's more like a rule of sevens). He combines slapstick, double meanings and non-stop tomfoolery with elaborate action sequences that can best be described as awe-inspiring and glorious.

'Jimmy' eats up Bender Arena

Jimmy Eat World and hot prospects Taking Back Sunday and The Format played Bender Arena Wednesday night to a packed crowd. The Format warmed up the crowd with songs such as their aptly titled probable first single, "The First Single." Taking Back Sunday stormed the stage next with the show's peak of physical energy.

SG appointees showcase personalities, policies

Student Government President Kyle Taylor has begun assembling his administration, from committees to appointees. The Outreach Committee will offer organizations a forum to publicize events and coordinate with other groups, Taylor said. The committee will include members of the Residence Hall Association, resident assistants, members of greek life, political clubs, culture clubs and campus media.

Dear Editor: I attended American University's Freshmen Day on Friday. Currently, I am a high school senior in Bel Air, Md., and will soon be an Eagle. I found AU to be one of the most interesting and vibrant campuses I have visited. However, I do have to say that I have never seen so many Polo shirt-clad, pearl-wearing girls anywhere in one place.

Campus Brief: Comstock to organize NCAA tournament next year

Athletic Director Joni Comstock will organize the NCAA tournament next year as chairwoman of the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee, the 10-member group that selects and seeds teams and picks venues for the tournament. "I will have a lot of exposure to both regional and national media, and each time I receive that recognition, so will American University," Comstock said.

Wal-Mart challenged by union, Md. health care bill

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union launched a grass-roots movement on April 5 to raise awareness about Wal-Mart's business practices, a senior adviser of the union said. About 45,000 people have already joined the Internet-based campaign, said Chris Kofinis, senior adviser for the union.
