Where's the spirit? We already have it

So what's the deal with AU not having any spirit? Let's blame Benjamin Ladner. Blame Joni Comstock. Blame the basketball team. Blame the pep band. Blame this newspaper. Let's reinvent the fight song and logo yet again to inject a sense of tradition in a 113-year-old institution that still somehow lacks it.

Lane's career game helps end losing streak Sophomore midfielder Jackie Lane registered a career-high six points to lead the AU women's lacrosse team to a 13-10 win over host Longwood Monday. Lane's four-goal, two-assist output in the Eagles' regular-season finale ended their five-game losing streak.

Hallinan, Wharton qualify for NCAA regionals Sophomore Steven Hallinan qualified for the NCAA regionals by running a personal best in the 1,500-meter run at the Duke Invitational Friday Hallinan's time of 3 minutes 47.00 seconds was good for second place in the race and less than a second shy of the winning time.

AU lacrosse frustrated by UMBC at home

The AU women's lacrosse team tied Maryland-Baltimore County three times but could never get ahead of the Retrievers in a 13-8 loss Tuesday. Sophomore midfielder led the Eagles with two goals, both tallied in the first five minutes of the game. Senior midfielder Moriah Linnell and junior midfielder Caithlin Gorman also added two goals apiece.

Sports brief: The Mount tops women's tennis

The AU women's tennis team's top two earned victories, lbut the Eagles ost the match Tuesday at Mount. St. Mary's, 4-2. Junior Julia Colarusso and sophomore Malvina DeLaCanal each won, 2-0. Colarusso defeated Jen Isosue, 6-3, 6-3, while DeLaCanal beat Katie Muething, 6-1, 6-2.

Lacrosse loses to Hopkins, but 3-0 in PL The AU women's lacrosse team fell to No. 3 Johns Hopkins Sunday, but beat Villanova Saturday to stay undefeated in the Patriot League. The Blue Jays (6-0) scored the first ten goals of the game in Baltimore on the way to a 15-7 win over the Eagles.

Lacrosse loses close match at Richmond No. 9 Richmond clipped the visiting AU women's lacrosse team Wednesday, 10-8. The Eagles led 8-7 midway through the second half when sophomore midfielder Chelsea Kapp scored her third goal of the match. But the Spiders (6-2) rattled off three unanswered goals to secure the win.

Thiel will swim at NCAA championships Sophomore Meghan Thiel of the AU women's swimming team will compete at the NCAA championships March 16-18 in Atlanta. She will be the Patriot League's lone female representative there after winning conference titles in the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyles.
