Opinion: Meat-eating event mocks grave issue

On March 18, 600 AU community members pledged to be vegetarian and helped raise more than $120 to help animals rescued from abusive homes. Some made the decision to participate for one day, some for the rest of their lives. Either way, these individuals took this step because they know that a vegetarian diet saves human lives, animal lives and the environment.

Opinion: D.C. a valuable resource

Some students refer to it as an abroad program, others consider it a semester college-swap program, and some refer to its official title, The Washington Semester Program at American University. But no matter what you call it, I know it has changed me forever.

Letter to the editor

Dear Editor: In the April 14 issue of The Eagle on Page 4, there is an editorial called "Remembrance Week: never forget." I have no beef with this article and completely agree with its content and message. The only problem I have is that this article mentioned every genocide of the 20th century except the first genocide of the 20th century, the Armenian genocide.

Take a trip to the Emerald Isle at Bethesda's Ri Ra

St. Patty's Day may be a blurry, distant memory, mostly of unidentifiable green beverages in plastic Solo cups over a dingy barroom floor. But that doesn't mean festive souls don't crave a frothy Guinness or flavorful Shepard's Pie every now and then. Although impoverished college students are more likely to get sidetracked by the Baja Fresh across the street, more culturally inclined cuisine seekers will benefit from an evening cloistered within Bethesda's Ri Ra, one of seven in a chain of Irish restaurants dotting the nation from Raleigh, N.

Music Notes

Nic Armstrong and The Thieves "The Greatest White Liar" (New West Records) Sounds like: The crusty, '60s blues-rock vinyl you find at every single garage sale. B For the most part, the garage rock revival acts that have taken off since 2001 have incorporated remnants of punk, proto-punk, glam, or '80s dance into an exciting hybrid.

Each year following the SC transition ceremony, The Eagle grades outgoing SC executives and departments on their performance over the past year. Unlike many AU professors, The Eagle does not inflate grades - that is: A = excellent, B = above average, C = average, D = below average, F = failing.

By now the entire sports world has seen the tape. Gary Sheffield goes to get the ball from in front of the bleachers and is "interfered with" by a fan. Sheffield semi-retaliates but the incident is thwarted before it escalates into violence. Major League Baseball has said it will probably not take action against Sheffield and the fan also will not be punished.

The Art of the Female Orgasm: What You Need to Know

While chatting with my girlfriends at Georgetown's swank Mie N Yu, I soon discovered that orgasms had become a rarity, along with nice guys and good Chinese take-out. I was shocked, and I was saddened for my girlfriends who were missing out on sex's grand finale: the orgasm.

At-a-glance: Tryst

"No corporate coffee, no matching silverware." This description is probably what Tryst, an Adams Morgan coffeehouse/bar/lounge, best prides itself on. As its Web site, trystdc.com, proclaims, "We don't have 75 different kinds of trademarked, pre-made caramel-nilla-frapp-a-ccino-supremas.

Poverty: a common foe

Every Tuesday and Friday afternoon I drive by the White House, the U.S. Capitol, opulent embassies and sprawling, grand residences in order to make my way to a low-income housing development in Southeast D.C. The tragic irony of the location's vantage point is that it provides some of the best views of the city from within the city.

At-a-glance: Staccato

No one thought it was possible. No way is there a cheap Adams Morgan bar devoid of pretension and brimming with eccentric charm! After falling into Staccato late on a Friday night, however, everyone will learn that, yes, such a place exists. A random collection of people water at this dive - and it's a dive, but in all the right ways.
