When many people in American society hear the term "Twin Towers," they often think of the World Trade Center buildings that stood in New York City before 9/11. In the sports world, this term has also been used to describe the dynamic duo of David Robinson and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs during their run to the NBA championship. However, here on the campus of American University, the nickname "Twin Towers" is even more fitting when talking about sisters Ann and Claire Recht, who are in the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest female twins on the planet.

The AU women's soccer team had a very successful weekend, picking up their first two PL victories with a 1-0 win over Holy Cross on Friday followed by a 2-1 triumph over Army on Sunday.

The AU men's soccer team continued their success at Reeves Field with a 4-2 win over Holy Cross on Saturday. The win was their fourth consecutive victory at home this season and first win of any kind since a 2-1 win over Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 10.

Field hockey head coach Steve Jennings took a temporary hiatus from his AU coaching responsibilities for the U.S. national team this past month, helping lead the squad into competition against the best teams in the world at the 2006 World Cup in Madrid.

He is none other than senior captain Sal Caccavale, a fixture on the AU men's soccer team for the last four seasons and a main reason why the Eagles have been successful throughout his career.

The AU men's soccer team was able to hold their opponents to a single goal this weekend, however they could not find the net themselves as they dropped both games of the New Mexico Youth Soccer Association Classic in overtime to lower their record to 3-5-2.

The AU men's soccer team tied Lafayette in a rematch of their PL title game from a season ago. The result dropped the Eagles to 0-0-1 in league play and 3-4-1 overall.

The AU women's soccer team lost their second game in a row on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Georgetown 2-0. It is the second consecutive game in which the Eagles have been shut out, following a four-game winning streak to start the season.

The AU women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon, losing to N.C. State in the finale of the Wolfpack Invitational. This loss snapped the season opening-winning streak of four games, which had been the best opening of a season for the Eagles' in the seven-year tenure of head coach Michael Brady.

The AU women's soccer team won the Georgetown Tournament this past weekend, defeating Duquesne 3-1 on Saturday and George Mason 2-1 the following day. The two wins improved the undefeated Eagles to 3-0 on the young season.

The AU men's soccer team traveled to Durham, N.C., this past week, hoping to build off of their success in the D.C. College Cup. However, the Eagles lost both games in the Duke/Adidas classic, evening their record on the season to 2-2.

Off to their best start since the 2002 season, the AU Eagles men's soccer team captured their fourth D.C. College Cup title in the six-year history of the tournament this past weekend. Victories over Howard University on Friday, followed by one over rival Georgetown University on Sunday, gave the Eagles their first piece of silverware on the season.

Back in the fall, President Benjamin Ladner was unceremoniously removed from office at AU after discrepancies in his contract's salary. Now it seems as if his name will also be removed from one of the AU Crew team's boats after a boat-renaming raffle held this week.
