I made my way to Georgetown to settle an internal conflict of mine: I wanted to know which local cupcake shop served the finest cupcake. Because I refuse to endure cold temperatures, I only journeyed to Georgetown, so this ranking includes cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake, Sprinkles Cupcakes and Baked & Wired.

There is a lot being said about our generation of millennials, including our desire to drift away from big box stores and seek out local, handmade products and even experiment with our own creativity. Some may call it the “hipster mentality,” or just think of those Starbucks-hating Brooklyn dwellers who grow their own food and sell their jewelry on Etsy, but it’s true, our generation loves to make and feel a connection to the things we put effort towards. I hesitate to say we are “crafty,” but we certainly are finding more ways than ever to embrace our artistic sides. So if you are one of those people who want somewhere to release your creative juices and put down the phone for an hour or two, there are some great places in D.C. that offer a variety of artsy experiences.

Without fail, every college freshmen will have horror stories from the kitchen. Whether it be setting popcorn on fire, leaving milk in the fridge so long it turns solid or figuring out how to work a coffee maker from hell, kitchens and college freshmen share a strange relationship. In order to fully comprehend how difficult it is for a freshmen to be able to function in a dorm kitchen, I gave up my meal plan, Dining Dollars and EagleBucks for a week and entered into a strange new world of independent dining.

I had heard of the sit-down Cava Mezze before. A friend of mine always described it as a replica of the Cava Grill in Tenleytown, where a waiter or waitress would provide a menu that contained all of your favorite meats, spreads and toppings that you would expect from Cava Grill. But after I stepped into the establishment located in Arlington, Virginia, I came to realize that this was no Tenleytown and this was definitely no Cava Grill.
