Holy Cross beats AU in close finish

·

AU Men's Basketball didn't look anything like the team Holy Cross smashed by 24 points two weeks ago in Sunday's home rematch with the Crusaders. But for all their improvements, failures to convert opportunities set the Eagles back in overtime, and they lost, 76-67.

PATRIOTs vs. EAGLES

Ian Quillen Eagles: 23 Patriots: 21 On paper, New England is the only choice. But that doesn't make it the right one. Terrell Owens will play, catch a touchdown and then re-injure his knee, jeopardizing his career and leading to a Pats comeback. Adam Vinatieri, whose previous two title-winning kicks came with the game tied, will miss from 48 yards and time expiring.

Women's b-ball falls short, 62-59

The AU Women's Basketball team should have lost in regulation at Bender Arena Wednesday night. With the score tied at 53, Maryland-Eastern Shore guard Ashley Chase held for the final shot, drove the lane, and then dished off to forward Kristi Veltkamp, who stood alone on the low block.

The game that will never be

No one likes to go through life saying, "Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda." But for argument's sake, I will. Ten days ago, I attentively rooted for a Roethlisberger-Vick shootout, a Super Bowl Sunday of the Cowher Scour and More-a Mora. My hope of a Steelers-Falcons Super Bowl was not to be.

Students prepare for Super Bowl parties

For some it is the culmination of the ultimate sports season; for others it's just a time to watch some of the world's best commercials. It's the Super Bowl - one of college students' favorite events. At AU and all over the country, students will gather on Sunday night to watch one of sports' and television's greatest spectacles.
