Favre's legacy threatened

In case you haven't heard, Brett Favre is getting ready to start the regular season as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Thanks to the good people at ESPN, this off-season has been the most Favre-filled since, well, last year. It is a shame that with the regular season just two weeks away, Favre has captured the headlines again.

Florida early NCAA favorite

Thursday marks the kickoff of many football fans favorite part of the year: the beginning of the college football season. Kickoff day is highlighted by a clash between No. 16 Oregon and No. 14 Boise State on blue turf. The season begins this Saturday, with over 60 games scheduled to fill the football fan's appetite.

Van Erp along with teammates Christine Fingerhuth and Alyssa Poorman were chosen as Patriot League players of the week for their respective positions. Their contributions have helped the team to a 1-1 record. They were particularly important in the teams 2-1 win over Richmond on Saturday. All three players had their best games of the season combining for one goal, an assist and two saves. The team goes on the road this weekend with a game against Michigan State University on Saturday. AU is ranked No. 14 overall and is chasing their third consecutive Patriot League title.

Three chosen for PL players of the week

Field hockey team members Christine Fingerhuth, Anne van Erp and Alyssa Poorman were named Patriot League players of the week on Monday. Each player earned the award for their respective position.

AU strong in 2-1 OT win

With the clock ticking away in overtime, AU defender Mikalia Weaver took a redirect in the penalty box and tapped it past the Bryant University keeper for a 2-1 victory.


REACHING UP -- Clare Recht jumps up with Angelina Waterman to block a Georgetown shot. While almost every set was close, the Eagles couldn't pull out a win against cross-town rival Georgetown University. The team has yet to win a game, despite being ranked first in the Patriot League.

AU volleyball played George Washington University and Georgetown University in a weekend tournament, losing both contests 3-1. Field hockey looks to frosh next season

The AU field hockey team may have a strong year as eight of their 11 starters return next year. AU has built a strong field hockey team over the past few years, winning six consecutive Patriot League titles. They had high hopes coming into the season last year, but an early slide led to a lower seeding in the NCAA Tournament.

Wrestling team touts high GPA

The AU wrestling team has achieved the highest grade-point average in Division I for the second year in a row, according to a statement from the AU Athletic Department. The team had two wrestlers finish in the top 10 at the 2009 championships, but that was not their only honor of the year.

So far this year, the Nationals have lived up to their reputation. The Nats are dead last in the National League East. In fact, they have the worst record in baseball. Caps push series to the brink

The Washington Capitals are one win away from completing a comeback of momentous proportions, led by the supporting cast of Matt Bradley, Tom Poti and Brooks Laich. Game 7 is Tuesday and you can bet your life that the Capitals are more than ready. Kobe lights up the Jazz

Kobe Bryant dominated the Utah Jazz during the first quarter and gave the Los Angeles Lakers a much needed final push down the stretch, as the Lakers beat the Jazz 108-94, to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the first-round series. Bryant had one of his worst shooting games in years on Thursday, when he went 5-for-24.
