Swimmers, divers excel in class

"'If you fly with the owls at night, you can't soar with the eagles at dawn,'" said Meghan Thiel, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, quoting AU swimming and diving head coach Mark Davin.

Davenport offers eco-friendly cups, new 'caf?'

The Davenport Lounge continues down the green, progressive track this year with new, environmentally friendly cups and the opening of a weekly Conversation Caf? feature. "Conversation Caf?s are drop-in community conversations in public places such as caf?s, bookstores or community centers," according to a press release sent by Sonja Hetrick, the Davenport's Conversation Caf? organizer.

In a Sept. 11 article titled "9/11 Unity Walk joins different faiths, cultures," it was incorrectly stated that Professor Akbar Ahmed was recently nominated by his native country of Pakistan to be Secretary General of the United Nations. Ahmed's nomination is not official and at this point it "is merely rumors and newpaper reports," according to Ahmed.

Three's company with AU a cappella

AU's a cappella scene is typically defined by three groups: Treble in Paradise, Dime a Dozen and On a Sensual Note. Each is equally popular and equally dynamic, and audiences are usually only able to see one at a time. On Friday night in the Kay Spiritual Life Center, students and fans alike were treated to a triple threat of all three.

Faculty nominees for search announced

The faculty members for the Presidential Search Committee will be elected by the end of next week, according to Faculty Senate Chair Jonathan Loesberg. The three elected faculty members will serve under board Chairman Gary Abramson on a committee that will choose a permanent replacement for Interim President Neil Kerwin.

Youthful voices resound in fledgling music scene

Whether shouting anthems about Harry Potter over a drum machine, playing deceivingly adult indie rock or crooning subtly racist White Nationalist folk songs, music performed by children is too sincere to write off as silly or forgettable.

Women's soccer shutout in first loss of season

The AU women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon, losing to N.C. State in the finale of the Wolfpack Invitational. This loss snapped the season opening-winning streak of four games, which had been the best opening of a season for the Eagles' in the seven-year tenure of head coach Michael Brady.

Men's soccer keeps home win streak alive, beat Loyola 2-1

The AU men's soccer team continued their undefeated play at home with a 2-1 win over Loyola (Md.) on Sunday, extending their home winning streak to three games and evening their overall record at 3-3. After back and forth play to open the game, the Eagles finally got on the board.

9/11 Unity Walk joins different faiths, cultures

An Islamic call to prayer in a Jewish synagogue set the tone for the 9/11 Unity Walk, an event designed to bring hundreds of people together from different faiths in honor of the anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The event, now in its second year, took place yesterday at various churches, mosques, synagogues and other religious buildings along Massachusetts Avenue, including the National Cathedral, the Gandhi Memorial and the Islamic Center.

Campus brief: Student Government begins new term

The Undergraduate Senate gaveled in a new term on Sunday with only eight of the 30 senators present. The Student Government executives presented summaries of their achievements over the summer as well as what they hope to accomplish in the coming weeks. SG President Ashley Mushnick spoke on some of her summer accomplishments, continuing former SG president Kyle Taylor's DVD initiative, Eagle Flicks, a rental system that will offer thousands of movie titles for AU students that will arrive in the coming weeks and be located in Mary Graydon Center.
