Arrest made in Duquesne shootings Authorities arrested Brittany Jones, a sophomore at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Tuesday in connection with a recent shooting incident that reportedly involved five members of the school basketball team. Reports indicate Jones is facing charges of reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm without a license and criminal conspiracy after she allegedly helped six armed men enter a school dance where the shooting took place, according to the AP.

The Eagles have dropped three of their last four games.

Women's soccer looks to stop slump after loss to GW; record now 4-3-1

After starting the season 4-0, the Lady Eagles soccer team has fallen into a slump. Tuesday afternoon's 2-1 loss at George Washington was the third loss in four matches for the team, whose record has dropped to 4-3-1. Although the Eagles dominated in possession, corner kicks and shots, a Colonial goal with four minutes to play proved fatal to the struggling team from American.

Faculty join search committee

AU's full-time faculty have selected School of Communication Professor Patricia Aufderheide, College of Arts and Sciences Professor Alan Kraut and Senior Reference Librarian Mary Mintz to serve as faculty representatives on the Presidential Search Committee, according to AU faculty members.

SG to explore AU smoking policy

The Undergraduate Senate has chosen to focus on how the university smoking policy can best suit all students as one of its last acts of the legislative term. Ben Murray, speaker of the Senate, said he hopes the Senate can reach out to the student body to find out what students want.

Civitas Week focuses on creating community

Civitas Week is an annual event at AU that was launched in 2003, said Bernie Schulz, special assistant to the vice president. The week aims to "heighten awareness of how we treat one another, regardless of who you are at the university," he said. It shows us "how we treat individuals, whether it be someone waiting on us in the Marketplace or situations in the residence halls," Schulz said.

Ibsen play translates to modern day

A stirring production of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People" captured the attention of the matinee crowd at the Shakespeare Theatre and held the audience enthralled until the final scene. Written over a century ago, a superb cast reinvigorated the play and emphasized the pertinence of its themes in the modern world.

In a Sept. 18 news article titled "Alcohol-related transports on the rise," The Eagle incorrectly reported that so far this year, no alcohol-related transports related to on-campus drinking had occurred. According to Student Advocacy Center Director Nick Johnson, there have been transports this year related to on-campus drinking, and Letts Hall Resident Director Issam Khoury was misquoted.

Letter to the editor

In response to the libertarian columnist, I would like to clarify a few points in the argument proposed. The claim was made that "libertarianism is a philosophy that values individual rights and freedom above all else." Furthermore, it was pushed, one should be able to do anything to oneself because it ought to be your right to do so, "unless it directly affects the rights of another," in which case the government reserves the right to step in.

Last Friday I was supposed to fly home for my cousin's wedding. After my usual debaucherous Thursday night, I got up just in time to hop in my friend's car and speed my way to Dulles. Would new smoking policies be enforceable?

In one of the last acts of the current legislative term, the Undergraduate Senate is focusing on how to reform the university's smoking policy. The current policy prohibits smoking in dorms and academic buildings, including in entranceways and on stairs. All members of the university community are supposed to enforce the policy.
