SG presents time sheets

Executives say energy was focused on planning events

Student Government Comptroller Robert Donigian and Chief of Staff Kristian Hoysradt presented a binder with all the time sheets filled out by paid members of the SG for the summer to the Undergraduate Senate Sunday.

Donigian and Hoysradt presented the time sheets in response to a letter written by Speaker of the Undergraduate Senate Ben Murray and Class of 2008 Senator Charlie Biscotto Sept. 22 requesting time sheets and financial records for members of the SG who were paid over the summer, The Eagle previously reported.

Hoysradt addressed the Senate, providing examples such as the AUSG Magazine, numerous events and the summer executive report, of work the executives and cabinet accomplished this summer.

"The Executive Cabinet would like to make perfectly clear to this Senate that we want anything we do as persons working for the students of American University to be as accountable and transparent as humanly possible," Hoysradt said.

While President Ashley Mushnick and Vice President Pat McGill completed records for time worked over the summer, Donigian and Secretary Carrie Johnson did not have any records in the binder.

Donigian said he filled out his own time sheet and then verified it himself according to the system in place.

"I just found it redundant," he said. "There was a lack of stress to keep time sheets."

It is mandatory for paid members of the SG to submit documentation of the hours they worked as outlined in the SG bylaws, The Eagle previously reported.

Judicial Board Chairman Joe Vidulich refused to comment as to whether there will be an investigation into the lack of documentation by Donigian and Johnson.

The binder included time sheets filed by members of the executive cabinet. Student Union Board Director George Eveleth was the only member with time sheets completed throughout the duration of the summer.

While other cabinet members submitted time sheets, they were dated this week for the time worked over the summer.

Time sheets filed by Kennedy Political Union Director Taylor Robinson were dated this week, although correctional liquid was used.

"It's not to come after you or any of the executives or directors - it's more or less to make a point that these records need to be kept," Murray said during the presentation.

Donigian and Hoysradt said a new process has been implemented for paid members to report the time they have worked.

Murray responded to the presentation, saying that although they responded, "the documents provided were not complete by any means."

"There's no doubt they've worked very hard and produced incredible results," Murray said. "They've done an exceptional job, but in the area of accountability through documentation, there are improvements that need to be made"
