Women's soccer suffers third straight defeat, 2-0, to LIU

The AU women's soccer team lost their third straight match Sunday afternoon, falling on the road to the Long Island University Blackbirds 2-0. The result drops the Eagles' record below .500 on the season, to 3-4-1. With neither team establishing itself offensively in the opening minutes of play, the Eagles got their first scoring chance of the match in the 31st minute of the game.

Panel discusses impact of climate change on economy

'Office' creator sees dead people, falls in love

This tired line is overplayed in pandering movies that come across as an affront to basic human intelligence. AU adds online application fee

AU's enrollment office expanded the use of an application fee this summer for all future prospective students. The new $60 fee applies to students who apply on the Internet as well as to students who use a paper application. The decision to instate the fee on the application ends a period of about six years during which prospective students could apply to the university for free online.

Volleyball drops doubleheader

The AU women's volleyball team struggled in the Marquette Cheese Bowl this weekend, losing 3-1 to the University of Wisconsin and 3-2 to Marquette University on Saturday. Buried in the hard fought loss to No. 13 ranked Wisconsin was senior outside hitter Rubena Sukaj, who set another AU record, this time for most career kills in AU history.

Men's soccer lacks offensive spark vs. GW

Junior forward Andy Stadler's two-goal effort led the GW Colonials to a 2-0 victory over the AU men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-4-1 on the season. For the second time in three games, the Eagles suffered a shutout loss, a fact that caused Head Coach Todd West to say he was frustrated at his team's effort.

House passes new D.C. gun policy

Though Hurricane Ike ravaged the Texas coast nearly a week ago, some areas of the state, such as Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula, are not yet accessible to residents, according to The Washington Post. "By staying away and being patient, you are making it possible for us to get you home in a week or so, instead of the months it would take if the city's infrastructure were more overwhelmed at this point," Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas told the Associated Press.

'lllusionist' director takes on Iraq war

Neil Burger didn't make a film about the Iraq war or politics. In Burger's third foray as a Hollywood director, which follows "The Illusionist" and "Interview With the Assassin," he instead set out to make a movie quite simply about America. As he sat down in the living area of his Georgetown hotel room this past Monday, Burger exuded a cool demeanor, unfazed by the uphill struggle his already delayed project, "The Lucky Ones," faces at the box office.
