Metro brief

Crime on Metro to set record

Crime on the Metro could reach a new high by the end of the year.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has reported 1,348 crimes - including robberies, aggravated assault and vehicle theft - thus far this year, according to the Associated Press.

System patrons should keep in mind that Metro has carried far more passengers than last year, making the transportation system a bigger target for criminals, Metro Transit Police Chief Michael Taborn told The Washington Post.

There are 3.5 crimes for every million Metro riders, according to the AP.
