Staff Editorial: Giuliani heckling goes against CIVITAS

Aretha Franklin would have been extremely disappointed with the audience attending Rudy Giuliani’s speech in Bender Arena this Saturday. Between some poor comments and loud booing from some adult audience members, there was a distinct lack of respect in the air that we should be ashamed of. As the most politically active campus in the nation and a strong promoter of CIVITAS, we should be aiming to encourage better civil discourse.

An arrest has been made in connection with the death of AU Professor Sue Marcum. Deandrew Hamlin, 18, was arrested Monday night in the District and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and felony fleeing. Hamlin has not yet been in connection with Marcum's death, and police are continuing their investigation Tuesday.

Kogod Professor Sue Marcum found dead in apparent homicide

Sue Marcum, an executive in residence and an accounting and taxation professor in the Kogod School of Business, was found dead in her home Monday morning by Montgomery County Police. Police said there were signs of forced entry at her home, and are treating her death as a homicide. Students said Marcum was a beloved professor, and left the 2:10 p.m. class she was to teach in tears.

Colbert stands against sanity with ‘Fear’ rally

In an interview with the Scene, Stephen Colbert emphasized his desire for audience members to react emotionally — not rationally — at the rally he will hold this weekend. The March To Keep Fear Alive is planned to merge with Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity this Saturday. Colbert did not say who his guest speakers would be.
