Guest columnist Hamad Alhaj: Are you a student who owns a car and attends AU at the same time? If your answer is yes, then do you use your car to commute to AU? If your answer was yes again, then you are out of luck. A lot of AU students who live out of the District have no other choice but to drive to campus.

Politically active student Democrats are forming a grassroots campaign group called Generation Dean American University, for Democratic Presidential candidate and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean. The group is in the process of gaining official recognition from the University, according to Generation Dean AU Coordinator David Kinsey.
A journalist's right to gather news content on public property was compromised when U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Park Police forced an Eagle photographer to delete digital photographs while on assignment outside of the White House on Sept. 9, according to photographer Rick Steele.
Newly hired Student Health Center Director Bethany Chiaramonte plans to make changes in the health center including longer hours, scheduling appointments and cosmetic upgrades. "The very first thing that I am looking at is access," Chiaramonte said. "We will completely reevaluate the walk-in system and will go from a 100 percent walk-in system to a scheduling system where you can make appointments.

AU is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month through performances, films, discussions and an overall recognition of Hispanic culture and heritage from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The month is packed with events to stimulate the mind, move the feet and, more importantly, embrace and learn the culture.
The rainy weather at the beginning of the game between AU and Loyola seemed indicative of both teams' seasons so far. For the rest of September, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has halted all sales of SmarTrip Cards, the reusable plastic fare cards, because of a product defect. "We get the cards in increments of 25,000, and the last batch we received, we discovered had serial numbers that matched cards that were already in service," Metro spokesman Steven Taub said.

Freshman Alison Doyle is the new goalie for the Lady Eagles and she has held her own in her first few games. Since taking over the starting role she has done her best to make the fans forget that former player Jen Liese, who transferred to Penn State, posted a 1.59 goals against average in her two years here at AU.
Many students shy away from contemporary art because they feel they cannot understand it. "Gyroscope," the new exhibit at the Hirshhorn Museum, rearranges its more than 40 piece collection of contemporary art to ease the public's nerves about viewing modern art.
