The American University College Republicans chose to cancel their kickoff speaker, syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin, last week due to her controversial book about the Japanese internment.

After clawing for every single point they earned in a 3-0 loss to the two-time defending national champions, University of Southern California, on Friday night, the Eagles pulled together to oust the University of Miami (Ohio) 3-1 on Saturday to win third place in the State Farm Illinois Classic, hosted by the University of Illinois.

Students, faculty 'Celebrate AU' on Quad

Many students enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cake, pretzels and snow cones on the Quad provided by the University as part of the Celebrate AU event. The event that kicks off the school year was held on Friday after it was postponed from Wednesday due to rain.

Ladner files complaint against student Web site

A decision is still pending over an Internet domain name dispute filed by AU President Benjamin Ladner this summer with the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) against the student-run Web site benladner.com and the site's owner Ben Wetmore over ownership rights of the domain name.

Maryland Upholds Electronic Voting

On September 1 Anne Arundel Circuit Court Judge Joseph P. Manuck upheld Maryland's decision to use electronic voting machines in the November 2 election. The decision was reached after three days of hearings in the case Schade v. Maryland Board of Elections.

The Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Ally Resource Center held its annual fall social last Thursday. "The social is a place for people to meet each other and hopefully find a home," said Dr. Mindy Michels, GLBTA director. The event, which featured free drinks and pizza, was held in Mary Graydon Center rooms 203 and 205.
