Students should expect a 4.5 to 6.5 percent tuition increase per year in AU's upcoming two-year budget plan, said Provost Neil Kerwin on Monday at a town hall meeting in the University Club. This would raise the current $25,920 tuition to between $27,086 and $27,605.

Julie Weber, executive director of Housing and Dining, treated an AU sophomore to lunch at the University Club Tuesday after he expressed admiration for her work.

Three AU students will host a party to benefit the victims of last month's tsunami. The "Do Your Part" Party, created by Robyn Wilkov, Jaclyn Mason and Simon Guindi, will take place on Feb. 3 at the Home nightclub on F Street.
Paul Glick and Lindsey Kingston, two AU graduate students, were awarded the $1,000 Martin Luther King Jr. Grant by the Eagle Endowment for their project, titled "The Webb Elementary School Book Club," at a ceremony last Tuesday in the Kay Spiritual Life Center.

The Gathering, a religious community based out of McLean Bible Church in Tyson's Corner, Va., will begin weekly services at AU on Jan. 23, making the University the first in the D.C. area to host the Gathering.
The School of International Service Annex was demolished during winter break. It took several days to push over the building, clear it from the spot and change the area to a flat, mulch-covered field. The annex had been used as office space for SIS professors, who have now been relocated.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily stop excavating AU's Lot 18 this Friday until further notice due to depleted funds, according to Todd Sedmak, associate director of AU Media Relations.
AU students will have the opportunity to do some "alternative" Christmas shopping this year with the Alternative Gift Fair, which will be Friday in the Mary Graydon Center.
Women between the ages of 16 and 24 represent the group most likely to be abused, according to a program on teen dating and domestic abuse held at AU yesterday.

Joseph John Sisco, president of American University from 1976 to 1980, died at the age of 85 of complications from diabetes on Nov. 23 at his home in Chevy Chase.
Finals at AU will last Dec. 16-22 this year - nearly a week later than last year's finals schedule. With classes starting Jan. 10, the winter break will be shorter than usual this year.
