Dressed in ripped skinny jeans and a black t-shirt, I was ready for a rock concert on Dec. 5. As a long-time fan, I thought I knew what to expect from my third Neon Trees concert. What I wasn't prepared for was a luxurious event filled with photographers and crisp suits.
For most people, the next week and a half will be filled with hanging up holiday lights, baking gingerbread houses and finding a tree to put up in your living room. Unfortunately, students are more likely to spend the majority of the week in the basement of the library, catching up on forgotten papers and studying for final exams.

Electronic indie-pop group JR JR, a band that started out as a couple of guys playing music in a basement, will appear at the 9:30 Club for a sold-out crowd on Nov. 6. The band is expected to perform songs from its most recent self-titled album, including the latest single, “Gone,” as well as fan favorites from other albums.
Although Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays in America, with major themes of candy and costumes, the festivities surrounding Oct. 31 are still incomplete. Overshadowed by anthems of Christmas, which begin to hit the radio the day after Thanksgiving, Halloween lacks a unique musical ambiance. Besides soundtracks from movies like Halloween and the melodies you were taught in elementary school (“One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater”), Halloween falls short on holiday music.
Brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy of the hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd shook Bender Arena on Oct. 22 with insane energy and “club bangers.” Ground-rocking bass and the brothers’ signature dance moves kept the crowd moving through the performance.

Australian four-part soul group Hiatus Kaiyote, is touring North America following the release of its second and newest album, “Choose Your Weapon,” earlier this year. The group gained popularity following the release of “Nakamarra”, a single whose video feature the band’s travels throughout the deserts and ghost towns of South Australia. Nick Hakim, a D.C. native born to Chilean and Peruvian parents, will be playing an opening set for Hiatus Kaiyote at the Fillmore Silver Spring.
