As shorter days and low temperatures begin to take their toll on a college student's already fragile psyche, there are few activities that can offer a respite from the dorms while still avoiding both movement and the outdoors. Well, worry no more! This semester, there are plenty of ways to be entertained while maintaining both laziness and warmth. Here are a few plays, exhibitions and performances coming up this semester:.

Many college students are probably familiar with Carl Orff's magnificent opus "Carmina Burana" without even realizing it. The opening piece "O Fortuna" sounds suspiciously like the back beat in Nas and P. Diddy's monster hit "Hate Me Now." Saturday in Kay Spiritual Life Center, the AU choral ensembles stuck with tradition as they performed this and the other 23 pieces of "Carmina Burana" as conducted by Daniel Abraham, assistant professor and program director in the Department of Performing Arts.

With more costume changes than Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson returned to D.C. for the first time in more than a year Saturday night at the 9:30 club. Despite his history of clashes with the religious right and various political figures, the shock rocker had very little to say about the election or our president. In fact, Manson had little to say in general; he came to rock, not preach.

The Importance of Being Earnest," by Oscar Wilde, is set in London and the English countryside. One would think, then, that the actors performing this play might make some effort to affect English accents. Unfortunately, only three members of the Arena Stage's cast manage to speak without bludgeoning the accent of our English forebears. The rest of the cast seems to have lacked any assistance from a dialogue coach, and are instead fine with just winging it. Wilde may have been rolling over in his grave.

William Shakespeare and Marvin Gaye probably wanted to work together, but what with the constraints of the time-space continuum, they never had an opportunity. The Folger Shakespeare Theatre has finally remedied this by bringing the two artists' work together posthumously in its production of "The Two Gentlemen of Verona."

"The Beautiful Struggle" could not be a more aptly named record. On his third solo effort, Talib Kweli explores nearly all the pain and glory that life can bring. Leaving no stone unturned, Kweli speaks on everything from first love to AIDS in Africa to the struggles of America's ghettos. Along the way, this MC proves he's got the skills to back his heavy lyrical content.

Walking into the Battelle-Tompkins Atrium on a Thursday evening might very well be a cure for even the worst of moods. When Treble in Paradise - AU's only all-female a cappella group - meets for rehearsals, the exuberance level is at 10.

While you are most assuredly familiar with coffee, Britney and Christina, Marwood may be unfamiliar territory.

When Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson walks into a room, the walls breathe a collective sigh of relief. With his easy smile, soft baritone voice and unmenacing disposition, Johnson appears to be all that The Rock is not. There is no ego too large to fit into his opulent suite at the Ritz-Carlton - not even a twitch from "the People's Eyebrow." Simply but impeccably dressed in a T-shirt and jeans, The Rock shakes hands (which are more like baseball gloves) and introduces himself as Dwayne.

There comes along so few films in a year that are so brilliantly crafted, so carefully written, so painstakingly researched that one almost feels like a different person upon leaving the theater. "Walking Tall" is, unfortunately, not one of these films. It is a movie that seems to bear much promise, only to have the old "bait and switch" pulled on the audience.
