Victorious weekend for Eagles in women soccer

The AU women's soccer team had a very successful weekend, picking up their first two PL victories with a 1-0 win over Holy Cross on Friday followed by a 2-1 triumph over Army on Sunday. The two wins for the Eagles improved the Eagles to 8-4-0 on the year and more importantly gave them a 2-1-0 record in the competitive Patriot League.

Eagle sports this weekend: What to watch for

Field Hockey (8-4 overall, 1-0 Patriot League, tied for first place): 10/7 vs. Bucknell Coming off a 1-0 loss at Albany last weekend, the AU field hockey team will return home for its second PL game of the year Saturday at 1 p.m. AU hasn't been as dominant as they were the past two seasons, losing four games to non-conference opponents already this year, including a 4-3 loss to Richmond at home two weekends ago.

Volleyball up 2-0 in PL play

The AU women's volleyball team won their first two Patriot League matches this weekend, besting Holy Cross, 3-0, on Friday and Army, 3-1, on Saturday. The Eagles rolled to an easy victory over the Crusaders on Friday, holding the advantage in kills and hitting percentage.

Women's soccer falls to No. 25 Navy, 2-0

The AU women's soccer team fell to No. 25 Navy on Saturday, losing 2-0 in their first Patriot League match of the season. The Eagles were able to hold the Midshipmen to a scoreless tie for the first 30 minutes of play. Navy's Sam Schroth assisted a CiAnna Weikle header in the 32nd minute to put the Midshipmen up 1-0.

Field hockey splits weekend in N.Y.

The AU field hockey team traveled to upstate New York over the weekend, holding on for a close 4-3 victory over Patriot League rival Colgate but falling to the University of Albany in a 1-0 defensive battle. Fresh off their first home loss in almost a year on Sept.

Field hockey's Jennings picked to coach U.S. national team

Field hockey head coach Steve Jennings took a temporary hiatus from his AU coaching responsibilities for the U.S. national team this past month, helping lead the squad into competition against the best teams in the world at the 2006 World Cup in Madrid. Coach Jennings was named as the team manager for the international tournament, the only collegiate coach named to the coaching staff.

September wrap-up: Eagle sports recapped

Women's soccer Back-to-back home wins this past weekend over Richmond and Robert Morris helped the AU women's soccer team improve their overall record to 6-3-1. After being held scoreless for three of their four previous games, the Eagles offense came to life scoring five goals in just two games en route to posting 3-0 and 2-1 wins, respectively.

Mario not-so-super; NFL is obviously Bush's league

Watching the Saints' emotional victory over the Falcons on Monday night, one thing became abundantly clear to me: I am glad I am not a Houston Texans fan. While Reggie Bush hasn't been All-World like many expected after the Saints drafted him No. 2 overall in last April's NFL draft, he has unquestionably outperformed the player the Texans drafted before him, Mario Williams.

Weekend wins help women's soccer stop four-game slide

The American University women's soccer team won consecutive matches over Richmond and Robert Morris this weekend at Reeves Field, ending their recent four-game slide without a win. The Eagles had a strong start to the weekend, dominating Richmond in a 3-0 shutout on Friday.

Latest letdown makes Eagles see red

Less than a week after battling the Lafayette Leopards to a 1-1 tie in the 2006 Patriot League season opener, the American University men's soccer team found themselves in a similar situation Friday night. But this time it was out west in Albuquerque, N.M.

First home loss snaps field hockey streak

The 11th-ranked AU Eagles (7-3-0) fell behind early and were unable to overcome a 3-1 halftime deficit on Sunday, falling to the No. 21 Richmond Spiders (5-3-0) by a score of 3-2 at the William I. Jennings Recreational Complex. The Spiders got off to a fast start against AU, scoring on a deflection off a penalty corner.
