Indoor track runs at Maryland Invite

Continuing their season-long success, the American University indoor track teams competed at the University of Maryland Invitational on Saturday, winning two events and placing in the top 10 in several others. The Eagles had a strong showing in the men's mile, taking four top-10 finishes.

Track competes at Navy Invite The American University men's track team competed in the Navy Invitational this past Saturday, earning seven top-five finishes. The Eagles ran away with the top spot in two races, as junior Steven Hallinan took first in the 1,000 meter and senior Awit Yohannes reigned victorious in the 3,000.

Women's basketball falls to Army, drop to 2-2 in league

The AU women's basketball team was unable to overcome an 18-point halftime deficit, losing to Army 60-47 in Annapolis, Md., on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Eagles to 2-2 in the Patriot League and 7-12 on the season. The Eagles started strong, going on a quick 7-0 run to take an early 7-2 advantage.

Men's basketball looks to gain PL credibility against Holy Cross

The AU men's basketball team started off the season with dreams of a conference championship, but fell into a month-long slump over winter break. The Eagles lost six of eight games, including their first two Patriot League matchups. However, they have a chance to establish themselves as a contender on Saturday when they will host the PL-leading Holy Cross Crusaders.

Eagles win 3rd in a row, 60-49 over Longwood

Andre Ingram and Brayden Billbe scored 13 points each and the Eagles survived a late run to defeat Longwood 60-49 on Monday night at Bender Arena. The Eagles (6-2) started out the game on a 15-2 run over the first seven minutes that gave them a comfortable lead.

Eagles drop Furman in year's biggest win

The AU women's basketball defeated Furman University 78-57 on Tuesday night, their largest margin of victory of the season. The win improves the Eagles to 2-3 at Bender Arena and 3-6 overall. Right out of the gate, the Eagles looked like the stronger team on the court.

Women's indoor opens season at Navy Invitational

The American University women's indoor track meet opened their season on Tuesday, running at the Navy Invitational. Though falling in dual meet scoring to Mt. St. Mary's, Navy and Towson, the Eagles had a good run in their opening meet, with second place finishes by juniors Kate Lilley and Cathleen Ford, and several other top-five finishes.

Women's basketball lose to Georgetown 65-55

The AU women's basketball team was able to rally twice from large deficits in Saturday's game against Georgetown but ultimately came up short at the end, falling by the final score of 65-55. The loss drops the Eagle's overall record to 2-6 on the season. From the opening tip, the game would be marked by dramatic scoring runs by both teams.

Indoor Track: Dec. 3 at Navy Invite The AU indoor track team competed in their first meet of the season in the Navy Invitational on Friday, picking up two individual first place finishes in the process. Juniors Steve Hallinan and Brian McCabe, along with senior Brendan Fennell, were able to build off of their experience at the NCAA cross-country championships by finishing first, second and third respectively in the 3,000-meter race.

Men's hoops to 5-2 on season with win over NJIT Wednesday

Seniors Arvydas Eitutavicius, Linas Lekavicius and Paulius Joneliunas all scored in double figures to lead the Eagles to their third consecutive home victory on Wednesday night at Bender Arena. The Eagles lead by just four at the half, but went on an 8-0 run that was capped off by a Joneliunas dunk.

Volleyball pressures No. 1 Nebraska in NCAA first-round loss

In an encouraging loss that left both sides talking, the AU women's volleyball team was defeated by No. 1 Nebraska on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but not before pulling out a team win of their own. The Eagles, who would eventually fall 3-1 to the Cornhuskers, became the first team to win a game against Nebraska in the first round of the tournament since 1992 and the second team this season to force a fourth game on the top-ranked team at home.

AU 81 - Loyola (Md.) 74 Andre Ingram scored 22 points and the Eagles survived a second half surge by Loyola's Gerald Brown to defeat the Greyhounds last Monday at Bender Arena, avenging a 68-60 loss last season at Loyola. "They handed it to us pretty good last year," said AU coach Jeff Jones.

The AU women's basketball team was able to pull out a win by a razor-thin margin Tuesday night with a 61-60 victory over UMBC to snap a five-game losing streak. The win was the Eagles' first at Bender Arena this season, improving their overall record to 2-5.
