Bode Miller completes comeback with strong Olympic showing

Team USA skiing maverick Bode Miller finished his final run in Vancouver in much the same way as he did the 2006 Olympics, throwing his hands up in defeat after missing a gate. His overall Olympic performance however, couldn’t be more different than it was in Turin, Italy.

The women’s basketball team toppled the Navy in a home game Wednesday night. The Eagles won by almost 30 points.

Koch takes 100-meter title

The AU men’s track and field team finished fifth overall and the women placed eighth at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Teamwork key in USA hockey wins

Monday was the 30-year anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice,” and the United States was treated to its own modern-day miracle when the men’s Olympic hockey team beat Team Canada on Sunday. But in reality, Sunday’s miracle may be bigger than the one 30 years ago.


DEFENSE — Liz Leer defends against the Lafayette Leopards in a game earlier this year. Leer scored 11 points in AU’s 70-61 win over the College of Holy Cross on Saturday. The Eagles moved to 11-1 on the season in Patriot League play. The team has one more home game against Navy on Wednesday.

Women take 4th straight

AU’s women’s basketball team beat the Holy Cross Crusaders by nine points on Saturday. The Eagles will play their last home game of the regular season Wednesday.

AU wins 100-meter backstroke

AU broke two school records, had five top-10 times and captured the 100 back conference championship at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend in Annapolis, Md.

Ohio State University overwhelms AU lacrosse 16-7

The AU women’s lacrosse team lost their second game in a row, falling to No. 16 Ohio State on Saturday 16-7. Ohio State got off to a fast start scoring less than two minutes into the match. The sports industry has seen a revolution in more than just its uniforms in the past half century. In addition to losing the short-shorts, sports have been improved by the addition of women to all aspects of the games. One AU administrator says Title IX is responsible for much of the changes.

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis seems to make nothing but bone-headed moves, this time he signed kicker Sebastian Janikowski to a four-year $16 million contract with $9 million guaranteed, the largest contract for a kicker in the NFL.

As Brian Gilmore drained a three-pointer late in the first half of last season’s NCAA Tournament game, an upset seemed imminent. The Eagles went into halftime up by double-digits against Villanova, the third-ranked team in the bracket essentially playing a home game at the Wachovia Center.
