Grounded wrestling champ brings AU to new heights

In a city where politics reign supreme and the local sports teams are plagued by mediocrity, Josh Glenn is an anomaly. The American University junior made school history last weekend in Auburn Hills, Mich., when he won the NCAA wrestling title in the 197-pound weight class, becoming the first AU athlete in 40 years to take home a national title.

A sporting revival in our own backyard

For about a year now, AU has not had an athletic director, which is maybe good considering that when there was an athletic director, teams were cut from the budget.

Like the Florida Marlins in 1997 and the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001, the AU Women's Club Ice Hockey team completed the journey from creation to champion in a few short years, winning its first DVCHC Spikes Cup with a 5-4 victory over the University of Delaware.

Andre Ingram hit a miracle three-pointer to tie the game with 39 seconds remaining, but Patriot League Player of the Year Keith Simmons scored with five seconds remaining to give Holy Cross a 55-53 victory over the Eagles on Sunday at the Hart Center in Worcester.

Women's lacrosse loses 2nd straight, falling to GMU 15-9 on the road

Multiple turnovers and deficient shooting plagued the American University women's lacrosse team en route to a 15-9 loss at George Mason on Thursday afternoon, marking the Eagles' second consecutive loss and dropping them to 1-2 on the season. American found themselves in an early hole in the first half, as George Mason was able to score first and then go on a short run at the 20-minute mark, scoring three goals in just over two minutes to put the score at 4-1.

Tears of joy and despair for Eagles basketball

The AU women's basketball team swept both games they played this weekend to advance to the Patriot League championship game. The Eagles will travel on the road to take on Holy Cross Wednesday night for the right to go to the Women's NCAA tournament. AU 68, Navy 55 In the quarterfinal game, the fourth-ranked Eagles faced off against the fifth-ranked Navy Midshipmen, who hosted the first two rounds of the PL tournament.

Despite a late run in the second half, the American University women's lacrosse team lost at Towson on Monday afternoon, falling 17-7 in recording their first loss of the season. Towson was able to strike first and stay ahead, going on a 4-0 run to start out the first half.

Life after Ingram: The future of AU men's basketball

Basketball takes first-round game over Colgate

Andre Ingram scored a game-high 16 points and the Eagles held Colgate to 1-15 shooting from three-point range to earn a 59-44 victory in the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night at Bender Arena. The Eagles jumped out to a 14-point lead early in the second half, but the Raiders held AU to just two points in a four-minute span to cut the lead to eight.

Women win home finale over Lafayette

The AU women's basketball team led from the opening whistle to the final buzzer on Saturday, defeating Lafayette 60-46 in the final home game of the season. With the victory, the Eagles clinched the fourth seed in the Patriot League tournament and will face Navy in Annapolis, Md.
