Eagle Rants

I only spend about 10 minutes a day on homework. I'm a senior and I've never been inside the library. AU needs to make its own version of Match.com. Someone could make some big bucks with this idea considering how many people at AU are socially handicapped yet desperate for a significant other.

Space rock shoots listeners beyond universe

Student Government brief

AU's Undergraduate Senate voted unanimously Sunday to not reinstate Class of 2012 Sen. Josh Roll. Roll was suspended for a poor attendance record after he missed three senate meetings and multiple committee meetings this semester. "He hasn't been active, he hasn't attended meetings and I think that reflects poorly on the office that he holds," said Class of 2010 Sen.

Do small schools have a chance against elite?

This year's NCAA tournament has seen more near upsets this year than ever before, which may be a sign that the difference between a No. 1 seed and a No. 16 seed has become smaller, but in reality it is just a smokescreen. On the first two days of the tournament, we saw Villanova University having to come back against a weak AU team and the University of Pittsburgh barely escape East Tennessee State University.

Superchunk sticks to classic summer sounds

Never heard of Superchunk? You probably should have. As a venerable '90s chug-punk band they achieved modest commercial and critical success, but they may be more important in today's musical climate as the founders of the indie label Merge, which has recently brought us big bands like the Arcade Fire and Spoon.

An Inconvenient Tray

More often than not, students and organizations pay only lip service to their supposed environmental concerns. This situation involves lots of talk and little action, as we have seen oil companies like Exxon and Chevron hilariously exemplify. Unfortunately, AU students often follow the trend - they talk a big game but change little in their lives.
