There is nothing if not an abundance of health information at our fingertips these days. Yet, information is conflicting — carbs are good one day, bad the next; coffee cures cancer if you have three cups, but causes cancer if you have four; no one really knows the health benefits of dark chocolate. We can feel so overwhelmed that we don’t even care anymore.

I don’t believe any college students who say they are not stressed. College practically breeds stress.

Stereotyping is bad.

There is no denying it: college students love their caffeine. When life is full of late nights, procrastinated homework assignments and cramming way too many things in 24 hours, it seems impossible to make it through the day without it.

It always starts the same way: new school year, new health goals. Eating the cookies from TDR only on the weekend, going to every single Zumba class the gym offers and trading in your beloved Diet Cokes for water are just a few examples.

As a college student, it’s hard to stay informed on current health and wellness issues — whether they are issues of personal health and wellness or the wider issue of the health of our planet.

The word “away” is personal. I can feel “away” only a few miles from home, but also be “away” living in London, yet still feel at home. However, the farthest away I have ever gone, and the farthest away I have ever felt, was during my recent trip to Turkey.

I often feel I spend an inordinate amount of time strategizing how I can see as much of Europe as possible while abroad. However, as I was recently reminded, with this mindset it is sometimes easy to forget how many great places are only a short train or bus ride away from London.

Though it has been statistically proven that traveling and living in any foreign country — be it Sweden or somewhere in the middle of the Sahara — will raise confidence levels, global perspective and even self-esteem, all study abroad programs are not created equal.

Comfort is a surprisingly multi-faceted concept. We elect to put ourselves in new, unknown situations with the hopes of being able to acclimate and transition so that eventually they become comfortable and familiar. But, if you’re like me, as soon as you feel comfortable again you start looking for a new adventure.

As I stood lost in the pouring rain on the streets of Paris at 3 a.m., my French-speaking friend re-booked on a different flight and my phone minutes officially used up, I could not help but laugh. No, I hadn’t gone insane. However my?chronic lack of sleep?and airport diet of peanut M&Ms (hey, they have protein!) probably didn’t help either.

Though any sort of exploring I do in London usually ends up qualifying as an adventure (whether I planned it that way or not), my first real European adventure took place this past weekend when I headed north to Edinburgh, Scotland.

American culture is known worldwide, positive reputation or not, but the British could go head to head with the United States for most distinct cultural norms.

LONDON — When considering the world at large, certain places definitely have a more “intense” reputation than others. Populations in some Third World countries struggle on a daily basis just to find clean water and accessible food. In other areas, there are extreme language barriers for native English speakers.

Writing my third “abroad” column while still at home in Connecticut proved to be a real challenge.

The word “freshman” has much more emotional weight than its definition would suggest. Often associated with angst, new beginnings and even bullying, everyone has distinct memories conjured up by that year (whether they like those memories or not).

LONDON — The phrase “four-letter word” should be pretty basic: a word with four letters. However, most often we associate the phrase with words lacking positive connotations. Well, here is another four-letter word — not usually on that understood list — but one which I can confidently say I would be happy to never hear or speak of again: V-I-S-A.

Do you love watching different types of dance? Have you always wanted to go outside your comfort zone and try a hip-hop or African dance class? Then “Dance is the Answer,” simply put, is the answer for you.

Starting April 15, the 24th annual Filmfest DC will bring culture en masse to the District, with over 80 premieres of international films taking place in theaters across the city.

With all the sunshine expected this weekend, your skin will definitely thank you for a little indoor time (check out some of the past health columns if you don’t believe it). Outdoors, the National Mall will have plenty of activities this weekend from free yoga to the fan favorite Cherry Blossoms. If you are headed downtown, however, be sure to hide from the sun a bit and leave some time to stop at the National Gallery of Art.
