Chartwells has been chosen as the new dining provider for the University in place of previous vendor Aramark, Chief Financial Officer Doug Kudravetz and Vice President of Campus Life Fanta Aw announced in an email to the AU community on Wednesday, June 19.

Two videos of a bug crawling through the Terrace Dining Room raised student concerns earlier this month about the cleanliness of on-campus dining services and the University’s treatment of Megabytes Cafe, which was closed in November after students posted videos of rodents in the restaurant.

Spring Valley has welcomed a new location of Pizzeria Paradiso to the neighborhood. The restaurant, which stands at 4850 Massachusetts Avenue near AU’s Spring Valley Building, is the fifth location of the chain and opened on Dec. 3.

Sociologist, poet and author Eve Ewing sat down with Ta-Nehisi Coates in the Greenberg Theater on Tuesday, Nov. 13 to engage in a conversation about Ewing’s new book, “Ghosts in the Schoolyard: Racism and School Closings on Chicago's South Side.” The evening was set up as an interview, during which Coates asked in-depth questions about Ewing’s work and her perspective on school systems across the country.

When students arrived on campus in August, they may have noticed a significant change to their campus dining options. Four major campus restaurants — the Megabytes Cafe, Mudbox, American Cafe and Asian Flavors — no longer accepted Dining Dollars, the currency included in AU meal plans that can only be spent at AU Dining locations.

On Oct. 8, the AU Bhakti Yoga and Vegetarian club invited the Festival of India back to AU’s campus to celebrate spirituality, vegetarianism and musical theater with students. The Festival’s food and informational stands went up on the main quad at noon and left the area at around 3 p.m.

This semester brought institutional changes to the University’s meal plan program. Specifically, independent food vendors on campus, such as Megabytes and the Mudbox cafe among others, no longer accept Dining Dollars and can only accept EagleBucks.

On Sunday, June 24, thousands of people gathered in the streets of New York in their own garb to celebrate Pride Month, held in the month of June in honor of the Stonewall riots of 1969. The crowd at AmFest was thin throughout the night, but as Aminé’s performance approached, the Tavern became increasingly filled with students. When Aminé took the stage, his voice flowed through the room and the lights danced across his face. The crowd lit up and welcomed the Ethiopian rapper they had been waiting for.
