D.C. ice creameries serve refreshing deals for National Ice Cream Day

Here’s how to get the best scoops on July 21

Summer days in D.C. can get unbearably hot and humid, but luckily National Ice Cream Day allows those spending their summer in the District to cool down in the sweetest way. National Ice Cream Day is July 21, and regardless of whether you were ready for it or not, the District’s ice cream shops are geared up with the best deals and promotions. Whether you’re an ice cream enthusiast or just a sweaty intern with a hankering for a dessert to cool you down, here are the best places to spend your National Ice Cream Day.

Ice Cream Jubilee

For those searching for an event that goes outside the cone, look no further than Ice Cream Jubilee the Navy Yards.

This ice cream parlor is spending their National Ice Cream Day celebration making D.C.’s longest ice cream sundae. They are aiming to make a sundae as long as 150 feet on the morning of National Ice Cream Day. The first 40 people to line up on July 21 will receive free tickets to watch the sundae get made and enjoy it afterward at 11:30 a.m.

Student can reserve tickets for the event on Eventbrite. Each guest will receive a two-scoop sundae. This event is taking place right by the Navy Yards-Ballpark Metro stop on the Green Line.

Coldstone Creamery

Coldstone Creamery is celebrating National Ice Cream day with a good, old-fashioned BOGO event, perfect for those spending National Ice Cream Day with a buddy or those looking to get the most ice cream for the least amount of money.

From 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., anyone who purchases an ice cream at Coldstone will also receive a second ice cream dessert for half off. While it’s no 100-foot long sundae, who doesn’t want a “Gotta Have It” cup for half the price?

Coldstone Creamery’s sole location in D.C. sits on Connecticut Avenue, across the street from the Red Line’s Cleveland Park Metro stop.

My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream

For those spending this summer saving up their cash, My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream is hosting a pop-up in Union Station, serving desserts for free. The Los Angeles-based ice creamery will be handing out free mochi ice cream starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. at the UNIQLO store in Union Station.

For those not in D.C. this summer, My/Mo will also be celebrating with their free mochi in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, Seattle and Chicago at various UNIQLO locations.

To get to this pop-up freebie event, just take the metro to the Red Line’s Union Station stop and head on over to the UNIQLO shop on the second floor.

Nicecream

Nicecream is taking to Instagram to celebrate National Ice Cream Day in a unique way. Instead of just handing out free ice cream, they are looking for customers to put in a little work for their promotion.

On the morning of July 21, Nicecream will post a secret code on their Instagram, @nicecreamdc. The first 100 people to whisper the code to cashiers at any of their locations in D.C. and Virginia will get a limited edition free cone with their dessert. Nicecream does not offer cones any other day of the year, so this is the one day to get it.

Nicecream is located in Adams Morgan, Alexandria, Shaw, and Clarendon. The Adams Morgan shop is their closest location to AU, located just a 15-minute walk from the Woodley Park Zoo/ Adams Morgan Metro stop.
