Men's basketball loses three in a row over Thanksgiving

The struggles continued for the AU men’s basketball team over the Thanksgiving break, as they lost all three games to the Fairfield University Stags, the University of Manhattan Jaspers and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks.

The AU women’s volleyball team finished the season with an unsuccessful trip to the State University of New York at Albany over the holiday weekend.

Forward Stephen Lumpkins led AU in scoring with 23 points in the losing effort. The Eagles have lost four straight games. AU rallied in the second half but were unable to make up the lost ground.

Men’s basketball comes up short

Freshman Mike Bersch drained a late three-pointer capping a 15-6 AU run, Bender Arena erupted and the improbable 22-point comeback suddenly became probable. Unfortunately, a late string of free-throws from Florida Atlantic University held-off the strong AU surge as the men’s basketball team lost 81-69.

When Notre Dame University graduate Charlie Weis was hired as its football coach, it seemed like a perfect fit, but his unsuccessful attempts at bringing the Fighting Irish back to national prominence may cost him his job.

LESS THAN STELLAR— Freshman Daniel Munoz takes the ball up the court in a game this year. AU blew an 11-point halftime lead and went on to lose 65-61. This year’s squad is much differnet than the one that won two straight PL Championships. AU lost its three star players to graduation.

Men drop first game

The AU men’s basketball team let an 11 point halftime lead slip away as they lost to St. Francis University in Pennsylvania, while the women used a strong second half to defeat Howard in the regular season openers for both teams.

OH SO SWEET — Emily Stovicek and Rachel Carney celebrate their 2-1 win over Loch Haven University. The victory gives AU its set straight bid to the NCAA Tournament round of 16. They will face the University of Maryland on Saturday in College Park. AU fell to UMD 3-0 during the regular season.

Field Hockey gets second straight NCAA bid

The AU Field Hockey team will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in seven years, after defeating Lock Haven University Tuesday afternoon at Jacobs Field. AU beat LSU for the second consecutive time and scored 2-1 in the play-in game.
