After down year, men seeded fourth in tournament

After clinching the fourth seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a victory over Lafayette Saturday, the Eagles will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., Friday to face the Leopards again for the first game of the tournament. This season AU overcame a 0-6 start and a 0-2 start to conference play to finish in the top half of the PL.

Tigers rally late past AU

The AU women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought loss to the No. 12 Towson Tigers yesterday, 17-10, in its season opener. It was also the first-ever game for the team at the new William I Jacobs Recreational Complex. The Tigers proved too tough, scoring five straight goals and closing the game on a 7-2 run to end the game with a seven-goal victory, ending AU's chance of an upset.

Great expecations for Eagle wrestlers in EIWA title battle

The AU wrestlers will trek to Lehigh this weekend trying to capture an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association title and a chance to make the NCAA Championships. The Eagles will be competing against wrestlers from thirteen other schools to get spots for to the NCAAs.

Tournament time for AU basketball

Fifty-four percent. That's what the Holy Cross Crusaders shot in their 74-55 drubbing of the AU women's basketball team two weeks ago. That kind of effort won't get it done when the Eagles travel to Worcester, Mass., to play Holy Cross in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament Thursday night.

Freshmen steal Senior Night, victory

Someone forgot to give the AU freshmen on the women's basketball team the memo: Tuesday night was Senior Night. The frosh mob of Tish Curry, Talicia Jackson, Sahar Nusseibeh, Nicole Ryan and Pam Stanfield turned Tuesday's celebration of the veterans into a coming-out party for the first-year Eagles in an 89-81 overtime victory over Patriot League-rival Navy.

Sports brief: Wrestling wins finale in North Dakota

The AU wrestling took six matches on the way to winning its last dual match of the season Monday at North Dakota State, 20-16. With the Eagles leading 17-16, the match came down to the heavyweight bout between No. 9 sophomore Adam LoPiccolo and the Bison's Mike Maresh.

Eagles top conference rival in final home hurrah

The AU wrestling team won its final three matches to cap off a 19-12 comeback against East Stroudsburg Friday night at Bender Arena. The Eagles, who won at South Dakota State Sunday, 38-9, are now 12-6 on the year and 5-1 in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.

Phil Bender spoiled by Holy Cross

In a frantic pace Saturday at Bender Arena, the AU men's basketball team put on its all-too-familiar display of immaturity and fell to Holy Cross, 69-62. AU (9-16, 5-7 Patriot League) finished with 16 turnovers and 23 personal fouls. "What's going through my head is our lack of preparation for this game," junior guard Andre Ingram said following the uninspired performance on Phil Bender day.

Indoor track wins 4 titles at PL event

The AU men's and women's track teams completed a successful trip to Patriot League Indoor Championships this weekend, placing third and fifth, respectively, and setting league and school records along the way. The Eagles kicked off their first day of competition on Saturday with a first-place finish in the men's 4 x 800-meter relay and a third-place finish by junior Conor Lanz in the men's 5,000-meter run.

Foley helps foil AU women

The AU women's basketball team lost Saturday to the Holy Cross Crusaders, 74-55, at Bender Arena, falling to 3-9 in the Patriot League. Kaitlyn Foley led the Crusaders with a dominating performance down low, scoring 22 point and grabbing seven rebounds. Nicole Ryan was the lone bright spot for the Eagles as she scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
