Simon and Garfunkel play classic concert

When Art Garfunkel, of '60s folk-rock duo Simon and Garfunkel, called "Kathy's Song" a song of "sweet nostalgia" at Sunday night's sold-out show in Toronto, the same could have been said of the entire evening. "Sorry it took us so long to get this together," Garfunkel told the audience of more than 18,000. "But we're thrilled to be here."

MP3.com closes its browser

Dec. 2 was doomsday for independent music. As of noon Tuesday, Mp3.com closed its server and deleted its roughly 750,000 files, marking the end of the largest catalogue of free Internet downloads from hundreds of thousands of unsigned bands, as well as downloadable tracks from an array of artists on Universal Records, the site's former owner.

Hundreds turn out for Ataris

San Dimas High School Football ruled the Tavern on Saturday night when pop-punk band the Ataris played to a surprisingly large crowd of over 400 AU students. The Ataris, and opening bands Planes Mistaken for Stars and Hopesfall, put on a solid live show that many students enjoyed.

On Oct. 28, Warner Bros. released "In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003," a two-CD conglomeration of choice album tracks and a slew of B-sides and rarities, which appropriately treads the waters of R.E.M.'s greatness.

'Boys of Summer' Ataris plays Tavern

Coming off a co-headlining stint on this summer's Vans Warped Tour, The Ataris will bring its energetic and emotionally-charged live show to the Tavern Saturday, backed by Planes Mistaken For Stars and Hopesfall. The Ataris' fifth and latest full-length CD, "So Long Astoria," which deals with growing up, is also the band's first major-label record.

Is it fate, or just a blind date?

The popularity of dating shows on television is perplexing, but perhaps understandable due to the public's voyeuristic tendencies. In an attempt to better understand the dating-show frenzy, The Eagle sent two supposedly unacquainted AU undergraduates on a blind date. Unfortunately, due to the incestuous nature of AU, the two candidates had already met. But hey, they didn't know each other THAT well, and aren't blind dates always amusing ... to hear about at least?
