From Mud Box to Megabytes, AU divided over coffee consumption

·

"Sorry, I was half asleep" shouldn't be an acceptable excuse for missing class at AU, considering that students can't swing a cat on campus without hitting somewhere to buy a cup o' joe. AU's main campus, which stretches roughly three-tenths of a mile, houses eight places to get your fix, not to mention the proximity of two Starbucks locations (four-tenths of a mile away to New Mexico Avenue and one mile away to Tenleytown).

Spring 2006

Spring break is idealized by MTV as the pinnacle of the college school year. A bunch of drunken post-adolescents fly to Cancun or some other remotely tropical locale, get half-naked and rub up against each other, all the while reveling in their meaningless consumer-driven lives.

Legendary musician showcased in new movie

Neil Young is kind of unreliable. His discography is littered with failures and confusing experiments, including an industrial album, 1983's "Trans." Young's music career, now in its fifth decade, has seen itself a lonely singer-songwriter, a rowdy fellow with an electric guitar and even a brief stint in rockabilly.

U.S. should abolish capital punishment

On his first full day on the Supreme Court, Justice Samuel Alito caused a stir among his conservative supporters by voting to stay the pending execution of Missourian Michael Taylor. While Alito's vote in favor of the stay might have been a move orchestrated to demonstrate that he is capable of acting independently of his conservative brethren on the bench, I prefer to believe that the newly appointed- judge is simply more reasonable than many of us have given him credit for.

'Freedomland' not as thrilling as previews promised

If there were ever a prime example of a trailer misleading the viewer-other than "Spanglish"-"Freedomland" would be it. The trailer makes the movie out to be a crazy thriller, only briefly mentioning the race issues that underscore the film. And the part about the insane asylum? Only a very minimal part of the plot.

New Comedy Central roast DVD less exciting than in past

The concept of a celebrity roast is a noble one. The idea of an established figure in the entertainment industry being showered with adoring insults from his/her longtime friends and colleagues is meant to serve as tribute to someone who's had a major impact on them and the public.

Letters to the editor

Dear Editor, Will Haun makes several fallacious assertions in his article "A man worthy of office", but I want to focus on his assertion, in particular, that "preserving the family unit" means denying same-sex citizens and same-sex families equality under the law.
