Comedian Mencia's 'Mind' DVD proves mildly mediocre

Since the debut of George Lopez, comedy has seen a number of Hispanic comedians come onto the scene. Carlos Mencia is one of the leaders of this movement and is also nothing like George Lopez. For those who love George Lopez for his show about family values in a Hispanic family, Carlos Mencia may not be heartwarming for them.

A Dictionary of Coffee Terms for the Enthusiast and the Amateur

Aged coffee: Coffee that is stored in the green state (before roasting) to create a specific, intense flavor. Barista: A coffee-making professional. Cappuccino: A hot drink made from one shot of espresso and one-half steamed milk, one-half foam. A mainstay among people with fashionable tastes.

Students and faculty invested in the upkeep of campus as part of Campus Beautification Day Tuesday, which AU Director of Facilities Management Willy Suter called a "celebration of the AU community." Campus Beautification Day is an annual event that generally occurs the week before the spring Freshman Day.

Women's tennis goes out on high note

After losing 10 out of its first 12 matches this spring, the AU women's tennis team could have given up on its final two. But, following a 4-3 victory over Colgate, the Eagles dominated their last outing ever, winning all seven matches over Manhattan Tuesday afternoon to send the program out on a two-match winning streak.

Palestinian Awareness Week

A white tent erected on the quad last Monday marked the beginning of the fourth annual Palestine Awareness Week on AU's campus, and symbolizes the plight of Palestinian refugees. AU Students for Justice in Palestine staffed the tent all week, providing information on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict along with Palestinian food and music.

For 20 years, They Might Be Giants has served as a funhouse mirror to popular music, borrowing from all types of genres to create their own quirky, accordion-heavy nerd rock. With two children's albums already in their library, releasing an experimental record isn't something new to the band.

Off the beaten path

Nestled deep within Northern Virginia, right off Interstate 66, is a small historical town named Falls Church, Va. Falls Church has two metro stops, one for the East and one for the West. If one were ever to find themselves getting off at the East Falls Church Station along the blue or orange line, one might automatically think to themselves, "Dammit, I've gotten off at the wrong stop and landed right smack dab in the middle of Pleasantville, America.

Friday, March 31 A female student was transported from Anderson Hall to Sibley Hospital for an illness. A license plate was stolen from a vehicle at the Katzen Arts Center. A ticket writer discovered a vehicle displaying a false permit. It was booted. Saturday, April 1 An intoxicated female refused medical treatment behind the School of International Service annex.

Insomniac DVD keeps audience in stitches

What is this DVD? Basically, four hilariously dirty comics hit Vegas and Comedy Central tapes it. Dave Attell hosts this night in Vegas with Sean Rouse, Greg Giraldo and Dane Cook. Attell has the most airtime, though it is chopped up among the beginning and middle and also between the other comedian's sets.

Students march, speak for sexual assault awareness

A record number of AU students marched through campus and into the Kay Spiritual Life Center Tuesday as part of the third annual Take Back the Night, taking a stance against domestic violence and sexual abuse. "Take Back the Night has a different effect for each participant," Hollander said.

Death penalty for Moussaoui

Yesterday the government rested its case against Zacarias Moussaoui, a French citizen of Moroccan descent who is the only person charged with a crime in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Moussaoui was convicted in the criminal phase of the trial, and the jury has already decided he is eligible for the death penalty.

Interim President Neil Kerwin discussed the academic progress the university has made this year, including its fourth Truman Scholar in six years on Tuesday, in an open forum for the AU community. Kerwin also outlined goals for the upcoming academic year.

The AU women's tennis team was swept, 7-0, by Maryland-Baltimore County Tuesday afternoon. The loss to the Retrievers stretched the Eagles' losing streak to four games. The loss also marked the end of sophomore Malvina DeLaCanal's string of seven straight singles wins as she fell, 6-3, 6-2.

Staff editorial: AU students march to 'take back the night'

Students gathered Tuesday night at Glover Gate and took part in the annual "Take Back the Night" observance. The event drew a large crowd, and it was encouraging to see men as well as women out in support of rape victims and prevention. After marching around campus chanting slogans against violence, the participants gathered in Kay to hear from rape vicitims and support them on the road to recovery.

Metro reports second-busiest day in 30-year history

Police closed much of 16th Street Monday as hordes of immigration rights supporters marched from Adams Morgan to a rally on the National Mall. The festive march stopped traffic in the late afternoon and had many downtown workers leaning from windows to cheer and observe.
