The setup of typical polls and surveys makes it difficult to determine what exactly is the biggest problem college students face today, School of Communication professor Dotty Lynch said during a panel discussion last night on student activists and their role in the presidential election.

Indie quartet to connect with students

This weekend, matt pond PA plays in the District not once, but twice, and their Saturday show is an AU exclusive gig in the Tavern. The band is touring in support of "Last Light," its late 2007 release. Though the album garnered mixed reviews, frontman Matt Pond said, "I really care about [this record], and I like it a lot.

Students provide tax services to community

Kogod School of Business students are currently volunteering to help local taxpayers file their returns. Through the Internal Revenue Service's April 15 tax filing deadline, 26 Kogod students will volunteer their time to help people file and get the most out of their tax returns through Community Tax Aid Inc.

Felty elected RHA prez, promises PR

The Residence Hall Association held their executive board elections last week to choose next year's president and three vice presidents. Christine Felty, a sophomore in the School of Communication was elected president, Hillary Roviaro, a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences was elected vice president of administration and finance, Jenny Leland, a freshman in the School of Public Affairs will be the new vice president of programming and Keiko Iioka, a sophomore in the School of International Service will be the new vice president of advocacy and community coordination.

Thursday's forum on the Sudan conflict, hosted by the School of Public Affairs Leadership Program and the Kennedy Political Union, was an incredibly insightful glimpse into one of Africa's most devastating crises. Although a last-minute no-show left the panel without a representative from the Sudanese government, the forum's talking points were still incredibly relevant.

Burst pipe causes stinky situation for Student Government

Four Student Government officers found themselves completely covered with fecal matter and sewage after a pipe burst over the SG's Mary Graydon Center offices on Sunday evening, according to Georgio Thomson, MGC's facilities manager. SG President Voe Jidulich was playing Scrabulous on his computer when the pipe burst.

Students were shocked Friday night to see Clawed Z. Eagle dragged out of the Ward Circle Building by Public Safety officers. "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those meddling kids!" Eagle shouted at the slowly forming crowd as Public Safety strapped him to the back of one of their new motorized scooters.

Japanese religion fuses myriad beliefs, traditions

Growing up in Kentucky, religion was an integral part of my life, as it is to many Americans, especially those from the South. My family prayed before every meal, and I went to church twice a week for most of my childhood. Almost everyone I knew was a Christian.

Fennell sets AU record in 5000m

Senior Brendan Fennell set a new AU track and field all-time record in the 5000-meter race as he and his fellow Eagle teammates competed at the adidas Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University over the weekend. Fennell captured the 5000-meter race with a time of 13:51.

Sunday, March 23 A giraffe escaped from the National Zoo and sought refuge in the Terrace Dining Room. When the animal reached the front gate, an attendant refused to let him in because he did not have a meal plan - or $12, which the mammal thought was overly expensive.

Nationals' Guzman: We call shotgun!

The Washington Nationals are admittedly excited to move into the brand new Nationals Park on the banks of the Anacostia River, but shortstop Christian Guzman let his enthusiasm show before their season opener against Atlanta in the ballpark. When asked by a reporter before the game about the Nationals' chances of making the play-offs this year, Guzman fervently responded, "I'm calling shotgun on first place in the NL East right now!" "Last year, [Philadelphia shortstop] Jimmy Rollins called it for his Phillies, and look what happened," said Guzman, a lifetime .

SG BRIEF Martin Sheen will be the final speaker in KPU's "Leaders of Today Become Leaders of Tomorrow" speakers series on April 14 at 8:15 p.m. in Bender Arena, KPU Director Amanda Fulton announced Sunday night. Fulton said she asked Sheen to speak about "how his role on 'The West Wing' reflects real life politics and how he can use his fame to bring awareness to social issues.
