For AU Women's Soccer coach Michael Brady, it doesn't matter that his team is 3-1 in its last four games. The real deal is that the Eagles (3-3-0) allowed Iona's lone second-half shot to become an insurance goal and mustered few scoring chances in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Gaels (1-3-1).

Congress pushes increase in collegiate academic integrity

Measures to protect intellectual and political diversity on university campuses have increased in the Senate after the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, said a National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities spokesman. The Senate committee has improved the bill by removing controversial issues, like references to grading and evaluation of students' work and intellectual pluralism, said spokesman Tony Pals.

Same-named brothers finally on DVD

1993: The year of flannel, "Jurassic Park," "Where's Waldo?" and - most importantly - a new show on Nickelodeon called "The Adventures of Pete & Pete." Unlike other shows on this "children's" network (like "Rugrats", an animated show about babies which can only truly appeal to those under 10), "Pete & Pete" was live action and provided entertainment to an older demographic as well.

AU students plan relief week for hurricane victims

More than 100 students from colleges closed by Hurricane Katrina's destruction have enrolled at AU to salvage their semesters, greeted by special accommodations and a week of events to raise donations for disaster relief. When the hurricane hit, classes had not yet started at Tulane, where most of AU's transfers expected to start school.

Students stranded by Park Bethesda shuttle cuts

Housing and Dining Programs dropped Park Bethesda shuttle's Sunday service and cut operating hours on other days because the building was not meeting its target revenue, according to director Julie Weber. To meet the target, the university reduced the shuttle budget when it chose a new shuttle service provider June 1.

AU welcomes new Catholic chaplain

Last week, the AU Catholic community welcomed their second new chaplain in four months, Father Zygmunt Kurzawinski. Kurzawinski will replace Father Patrick Dempsey, who was reassigned by the Archdiocese of Washington to work full-time as a secretary for retired Cardinal William Baum.

For AU field hockey, home is sweet

It took only 23 seconds for the AU field hockey team to christen the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex last Saturday. After waiting several months for the facility's opening, AU topped Ivy League powerhouse Princeton 4-1 in its inaugural game at "the Jake" in front of 600-plus spectators.

AU, Purdy fall violently in DC College Cup

AU men's soccer coach Todd West knows bad injuries. Almost three years ago he witnessed then-freshman Freddy Llerena's gruesome leg-snap after a tackle in a friendly against Major League Soccer team D.C. United. Llerena was able to play again after the compound tibia fracture.

AU hall-of-famer promotes development in Africa

Former NBA player and American University alum Kermit Washington is using his AU education abroad through the Project Contact Africa program, an organization he founded in 1995. The program, which primarily allows students to visit Africa and work in the slums at health clinics and orphanages, has been popular among AU students.

AU students now able to download Napster service

The music downloading service Napster, which offers one million downloadable music files and radio service was launched on campus last Thursday and is available to all students living in the residence halls. Approximately 875 of the 3500 students living on campus have downloaded the program so far, said Carl Whitman, the executive director of the Office of Information Technology.
