The Heart of America Foundation named Brianne Schwantes, a 2003 graduate of AU, a National Hero of the Heart. The Heroes of the Heart program honors exemplary individuals who represent the "Heart of America," according to the program's Web site.

Following the footsteps of the Class of 2005's O.R.G.Y. Week, the sophomore Class of 2007 at AU held its own "007 Week." Tuesday's event was a party at Guapo's, which was the last under-21 party of the year. Tonight, there will be a free Chipotle night for Class of 2007 members.

The American University community held its first Table Talk lunch of the 2004-2005 year on Thursday. The topic, "Humanitarian Intervention: Still Needed But No Longer Fashionable?" is part of a semester-long series in which AU students and faculty meet to speak about matters of moral, social, and ethical concern. Table Talk lunches are twice-monthly events sponsored by the Office of the University Chaplain.

AU President Ben Ladner held an informal town hall meeting yesterday evening in the University Club for students. Ladner answered questions from students who attended the meeting, which was moderated by Student Confederation President Polson Kanneth. University officials such as Vice President of Campus Life Gail Hanson and Executive Director of Housing and Dining Julie Weber were also present.

In August, Director of Homeland Security Tom Ridge announced a new, unusually specific terror threat. Buildings in New York, New Jersey, and D.C. fell under the threat, including financial institutions in the District, such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
