For the past year, you've allowed me to editorialize on all things AU - from shuttles to surveys to strategic plans. I've done my best to unravel different sides of AU for you. I wrote with one goal: to give students, faculty and staff another reason to pick up The Eagle.

Dear Undergraduate Internship,

With 40 seconds left in AU's March 8 Patriot League semi-finals game versus the U.S. Military Academy, everyone in Bender Arena was on their feet. Brian Gilmore had just scored a three-pointer to tie the game, 60-60, and most of us were suffering minor heart palpitations.

The Eagle recently reported that Housing and Dining has begun evaluating plans for the empty retail space in the tunnel, which has been vacant for the three-and-a-half years I've been at AU. Apparently the space's limited size and lack of an exhaust system make it a difficult sell to any potential food vendor. In fact, to get around the inability to cook anything, one of the options being discussed involves trucking in already cooked food, reheating it and then serving it to hungry undergraduates.

We are only beginning to tell the story of AU. Spreading the good word about AU is a goal of university leadership, and it is a goal that I'm glad has moved to the forefront, even as we work to improve AU for future generations.

I'll be graduating in a few months. But before I leave, I thought it'd be interesting to be a prospective student again - to relive my own introduction to AU in the modern day.

At the most politically active school in the United States, students like to give their opinions - whether protesting on the quad or debating the great issues of our time. And every semester, we give feedback to the registrar to evaluate the performance of our professors. I figured that since we are such an opinionated student body, our desire to influence non-political things, like decisions about AU, would be high as well.

AU students need to focus on benefits of this university, not the detriments. We're too often focused on the negatives, looking, begging for something to criticize or call out. Let's be honest - who hasn't complained about the Terrace Dining Room, Public Safety, Financial Aid, the dorms, bureaucracy, the list goes on and on. And I'm no preacher - I can dish with the best of them. In fact, you're likely to see me do so in this newspaper.

This column is a chance to offer criticism and perspective on AU. It is a chance to offer congratulations, suggestions - or merely brief observations. It can pose a question, it can jumpstart a discussion.

As my time here at AU begins to come to a close, I've found myself wondering if I have any regrets - anything that I wish I had done.

Last Thursday, The Eagle reported that Housing and Dining is in the development stages of a new program named EagleEye, which "will gather information about resident students' personal life, academics, social life and overall AU experience that AU officials will then track."

When I walked through AU's gates three years ago, my new and unfamiliar home was sliding into chaos. Within weeks, I saw President Ben Ladner plummet amid allegations that involved French chefs and private chauffeurs. Students protested on the quad and demanded accountability, honesty and real leadership.
