Director Anna Rose Holmer steps boldly into the indie movie scene with her film debut “The Fits”, a captivating portrayal of a young girl’s struggle with isolation and need for belonging. Toni (Royalty Hightower) spends every day at the Lincoln Community Center in Cincinnati, training as a boxer with her older brother Donté (Antonio A.B. Grant Jr.). After Toni tries out for the Lionesses, a dance team that practices at the center, she turns her back on boxing. Conflictarises as members of the dance team fall victim to mysterious fainting spells, and Toni is faced with a choice between her two worlds.
D.C. United defender Steve Birnbaum and former United midfielder Perry Kitchen were named to the United States Men’s National Team final roster ahead of the Copa America Centenario this summer. Birnbaum has made 54 appearances for United since being selected with the 2nd overall pick in the 2014 MLS Superdraft. Kitchen, a member of D.C. United from 2011-2014, recently signed with Hearts of Midlothian in the Scottish Premier League.

A 4-3 loss in overtime to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Tuesday night marked the end of the Washington Capitals’ landmark season. After leading the rest of the National Hockey League for most of the year, a team that showed so much promise suffered a second-round exit in the playoffs.

Midlife crises usually don’t result in relocations to war-torn countries in the Middle East. But that’s exactly what happens in “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot”, the new seriocomedy based on the memoir “The Taliban Shuffle” by newspaper journalist Kim Barker. The movie follows Kim Baker (Tina Fey, “Mean Girls,” “30 Rock”) as she takes on a risky assignment as a war correspondent in Kabul in the early 2000s. As Baker gets drawn into the “Kabubble” and struggles to adjust to her new life, she develops close relationships with her fellow oddball journalists.

Recounting the story of one of the greatest Olympic underdogs, director Dexter Fletcher (“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”) brings enormous energy and fun to the screen.
With the changing seasons brings the changing of fashion, and what better way to start spring than with the DC Fashion Week? DC Fashion Week starts February 24 at 6 p.m. with the opening night event, vendors and entertainment. Tickets for standing room are free, but rows 1 and 2 are $50 and $30, respectively.
