Indigenous communities in Guatemala are facing a new wave of repression in their struggle for land rights and access to natural resources, a struggle reflecting the fundamental conflict between economic and community development.
As AU students, we typically lean toward issues that arise in the midst of D.C. politics (international relations, federal government, economics, business). However, lesser-known conflicts could teach us more about the role of government and power systems within a society.
