Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Thumbs Up To...

... Vinyl records. It's true you can't fit eight gigs of music on a record. But you can't fit the record sound on any iPod ever made. We salute those iconic crackles, static-y silences and the now burnt-out bands who made the LP boogie.

... Patriotism. When did loving America go out of style? Where else in the world can you drive west for 3,000 miles, eat apple pie, listen to Woody Guthrie and then whip out your credit card to buy an HD flatscreen on sale for under a grand. Hopefully the sour economy won't destroy our American way of life.

... Mens basketball. Taking down the United States Military Academy's basketball team 58-36 isn't very patriotic but ...whatever. The team is poised for another run at the tournament and we are all pumped!

Thumbs Down To...

... Rihanna and Chris Brown. The momentary excitement of seeing that his Facebook status now reads "single" doesn't quite make up for his domestic abuse. We can't pick sides on this one - he got herpes and a slap to the face. She got punched and thrown out of the car. Both seem pretty stupid to us.

.... The AU Student Government event update e-mail. A recent e-mail from AUSG was sent after some of the events had already happened. Informing students of events that have already happened isn't informative or appreciated. Better luck next time.

... Not having President's Day off. No wonder patriotism has taken a back seat during the past 10 years. We don't have time to celebrate our Founding Fathers properly. These men toiled endlessly on our behalf, and we can't thank them! Outrageous!

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
