AU track places well at Navy

The AU men's track team competed at a five-school meet Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The other four schools that participated at the meet were Navy, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Three AU runners finished second in their races at the meet - junior Dan King, sophomore Jeff Brannigan and sophomore Conor Sullivan.

Both King and Brannigan had career best times in their respective events. King, who ran in the 500-meter dash, was able to put up a time of 1:06.30. This time was good enough to land him second place in the event behind Princeton's Mike Eddy.

"I was satisfied with my performance and I really think it's just a product of the training we do as a team," King said. He said he plans to continue working even harder in order to win the conference championship in the 500.

Brannigan ran a personal best 4:15.90 in the one-mile race and finished second in the race to Princeton runner Trevor Van Ackeren. Following Brannigan was freshman teammate Chris Tonn, who finished the race with a time of 4:17.87.

Sophomore runner Conor Sullivan came in second in the 1000-meter race with a time clocked in at 2:32.79. Sullivan was barely edged out by Princeton's Kyle Soloff, who ran a time of 2:32.59.

At the meet, AU finished in fifth place overall.

"We're not particularly concerned with the team scores at this point in the season," King said. "Right now we're just trying to put ourselves in a position to be competitive at the conference meet so that we can have a good team showing when it really counts."

The team's next meet, the University of Maryland Invitational, occurs Saturday.
