I can understand Emily Bush's personal dislike of the new sex column. I, for one, think it can be a good idea to have a cute theme - even a pirate theme - if it will help get the attention of the young, single people the "shipmates" of the "Lusty Saber" are trying to reach. (I especially liked "come face-to-face with the most unruly of seamen.") Not everyone responds quite as well to Dr. Ruth or a dry sex manual (no pun intended!).
I can also understand Emily Bush's apparent feeling of being patronized when she read about consideration for one's roommates. I'm sure the "shipmates" understand that most people want to be considerate of their roommates. Different people come to college with different levels of understanding of when consideration is especially needed and, particularly, how to show it. The columnists have given excellent, specific, practical advice on making sure your sexual adventures don't destroy your living situation. I sometimes don't agree with "In Search of Booty," but overall, it's an asset to AU.
